Isaiah Stewart became the first player to get a rookie extension with the Detroit Pistons of the Tom Gores era and, likely, the only player from Troy Weaver’s 2020 class to get a contract extension. Was this the right move to make by the Pistons? Is Beef Stew worthy of this contract?

He gotta be wowing them in the gym because I dont see why u offer this deal so soon
You said what I stated when the news broke on the extension. All I’m going to state with my comment is facts. The fact is, since his minutes increased every year, his field goal percentage, PER and 3 point percentage have all decreased. Duren is your starting center imo, though he has shown improvement to shoot the midrange, but he does not shoot it well enough to play the 4. At this point, I have no idea what Troy Weaver’s plan is. You have Marvin Bagley, if you don’t trade him for the next two seasons. Bagley is not an efficient outside shooter either, so he too is an inside player. So you have 4 inside presence players; Duren, Bagley, Stewart and Wiseman. Are we putting Bojan at the 4 who is not a good defender? What’s the plan? I’m lost.
Agreed. This extension is too soon. We still don’t know if Stew has the skill set to be a starting caliber 4. The smart approach would have been to wait another year and monitor his development.
Stones shoulda given the money to b ball Paul!
I wish you had the same energy for Killian that you have for Stew because between the two players Stew is the better player 🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽
I am hearing year four is a team option and that another four million is incentive based so it’s a three year $45 million deal that can be four years for $64 million. So the deal in fine.
If you around the organization other then Cade Stew has been the heart of the team. His passion for the team and City leads to identity of where they want to go.
I hope your right about ausar, because jarace Walker looks special , defending, playmaking and shooting 3s Looks good in summer league.
If you're 22 and already a very good player with a path to get even better, you aren't signing for 3 years / 45 mil. For his age, potential, and floor – this is a very solid and safe bet by the Pistons.
I'm at a lost at what Weaver is doing. We could have offered Cam Johnson 30mil and had a quality level starting sf or pf. Could have drafted Walker and not have a project at sf. The roster doesn't make any sense. I've been a supporter of Weaver until this off-season. Wasn't a fan of drafting Thompson and was pissed that we didn't attempt to sign Johnson. As a fan looking from the outside the Harris deal would have been there if we offered Johnson a contract and the Nets matched it. I was all in on tanking this season but now it looks like it was a complete waste. I felt even if we got the 5th pick the season wasn't a waste of we didn't take on a project and signed Johnson. Now it seems like we are at least two years away from being a playoff team.
Weaver absolutely did the right thing. Stewart was already drawing trade interest. Some team would've paid him 20+mil next year if he hit free agency and we would be stuck with a much worse contract. We should be extending all of our young players that we trust will become good. Its a little more risky but allows us to not enter bidding wars in free agency to keep them.
Hey Ku, what do you think about us going after Siakam? Either trading for him now and what it would take, or getting him next offseason. I personally think he would be that guy for us.
I'd love for you to have more interviews and conversations with reporters and podcasters, I enjoy the debate and dynamic of that quite a bit. keep up the good work!
Not upset about the Stewart extension, but more suspect of the decision at this time. Has not established himself as a reliable starter. Difficult to identify the aspects of his game that he has shown significant improvement in. Fans always want to talk he is only 21-22 yrs old, but ignore the fact that he is entering his 4th yr in the league. Its time we see consistency & improvements in his game, especially on the offensive end. Lets temper the excitement on Thompson wanting to be great, bringing championships to the city, he hasn't played a official NBA game. Not going to make too much out of what I've seen in Summer League, as things will look 1000 times different as players adjust to Monty's system & with Cade on the floor.
To believe in Killian as much as you do and not believe in Stewart is amazing.
Ku I think your perspective would change if the Pistons didn't have all this extra big baggage. This contract shouldn't hold Stew accountable to the 4, he can't help that. He could give great mins at backup 5 in this league, as well as some 4.
Ku. Stew has been a 33% three-point shooter the entire time he's been in the league- even through a shoulder injury with increase volume. He is a serviceable outside shooter and he has improved. They paid him because they saw more improvement.
They obviously seen something in the off season with his training on his 3 point shot and more
Ausar hasn’t been able to show offensively what he can do! But shooting consist of not only jump shots but dribble penetration and getting the interior baskets so while they work on his jumper I’ll take the other scoring opportunities
This team has been bogged down by playing half court no movement basketball but I believe we be in the top 10 scoring off the fast break! Let’s let the young guys run
Happy Stew is Here! Let's Go!
His health needs to be better i see how he hustles. Is he worth a Rui that's who i wanted for max 64 mill. They signed him for what he showed but he is still undersized. Why are our bigs shooting 3s but cant hit 10 footers. Im not out with the contract but he needs to show. His finishing his passing and his top of the key defence. My hope is he becomes skilled enough to be a 3. Also his dribble and his pick and roll shooting needs to be addressed. What if he gets injured again?? Can he do the things mentioned and will the Pistons allow it?? His baseline jumper looked great since rookie year. That should be expanded on as well. He needs also to give us 14 or 16 points. 12 should be out the window as well. 35 or more thats what we need. Another key player should be livers his health and development as a 4. Can help us out as well.
weaver is so bad 😭😭
Killian Hayes supporter tho 🤔🤔😕😕???
Hayes is a bust dump him
You do know we let plenty of NBA draft picks go and help other teams win a championship, plus if he developed then that’s a great trade asset or help the pistons hit there goal
My issue with the contract is that it basically solidifies his spot as a starting 4 which I am not particularly thrilled or looking forward to. Stew is a serviceable bench player not a starter.
Stew contract was kool but the Thompson twin cant shoot to save his life that second pick should have been E. Bates period we needed another scorer who can get his own buckets Saser is kool but we dropped the ball on the 2nd pick….SMH
The fact that we paid Stew with such a small sample size of games implies that he's been fantastic off the court. Teamwork, Leadership, Work Ethic, etc..
Stew’s contracts gonna be a steal. Ausar =Lonzo Ball. You had Cades big bro at the crib🤯🤯🫡. I’d let duren do his thing besides the too much dribbling.
