Think most folks remember but Nurk did initially start ahead of Joker with Joker meant to be his understudy back in 2015 (can you believe it’s been that long!) when they were on the team together. Nurkic had a knee injury to start his second season and Jokic ended up having one of the better rookie campaigns in the NBA.
Nurkic initially started in 2016 but Joker ended up forcing his way into the lineup alongside him, supplanting Faried, which didn’t work. Too slow and no spacing. Malone tried Joker and Faried….same issues. Jokic ended up being more or less officially made the starter a few months into the season and both Nurk and Faried were pissed at losing their starting jobs, Nurk was pissed because he felt Malone wasn’t transparent and he was being jerked around. Nurk demanded a trade and ended up in Portland, swapped for Plumlee. Faried ended up banished to the end of the bench by Malone in 2017/18 and that pretty much ended his NBA career.
Joker was fat when he first was drafted. He has slimmed down and put on a lot of muscle since then. The way he shoves every center in the league around the floor. You know hes a load.

Jokic averaged 19/11/6 the season before MPJ got there. Either he made this up or he’s an actual dumbass…probably both.
The context to MPJs comment was that it was based on a practice game during the off-season, that he hasn’t watched Jokic actually play and that everyone around him was saying ‘just wait, you’ll see’. In other words, MPJ was just saying that Jokic’s true quality was a massive surprise to him.
