[Smith] The Raptors will move him (Siakam) if they get a good offer. They haven’t… The prevailing attitude from a variety of sources is this: Siakam is in play. The Raptors are in no rush. Nor do they feel they must make a deal.

Found it interesting that Doug speculates that the luxury tax could be one of the reasons why they’re thinking about trading him.

Who sticks around longer – Bobby/Masai or Siakam?

The year is 2024: the Raptors lose Pascal Siakam for nothing as he signs to the Charlotte Hornets for a 5 year 250m dollar max contract

Lmao what is there to report? Same shit like always. Doug Smith a hack.

It’s obvious by now. The Raptors have no intention of trading Siakam. They are floating Siakam to show Siakams team his value. They haven’t got “good” offers. They will use this as ammo when negotiating his extension.

If they’re not determined to trade him I can’t understand not extending him. Maybe they want to leave trade options open and will try to extend him shortly before the season starts if no trade materializes? Seems stupid, would just alienate Pascal and then he won’t sign the extension.

I also think they are floating this as a “you want to stay, get with the new program or be traded”

Siakam could speed up rebuilding teams timelines, even potentially giving them playoff experience. Teams need to start making better offers.

Sounds like Doug is trying to put his own toothpaste back in the tube here

A team not in the playoffs should not be maxing anyone, especially if they didn’t even make the all star team

I know there’s a lot of frustration towards our FO from fans, but I can understand the position of the FO. This is also really difficult to gauge if we don’t know what other teams are offering.

If we’re being offered scraps, young players with not much potential, and picks that would likely be late then why go ahead? We’re just doing a favor for the other team. Fans of teams hoping to net Siakam are all talking about the rental aspect, but they’re obviously hoping he ends up signing a long term deal with them while we take back their mediocre prospects and scraps. In that case, we’re getting fleeced.

If the return isn’t good, then the teams short and long term future ensure continuous treadmill running while we’ve just made a conference rival stronger.

Obviously, Siakam comes with risks, but he’s an all-star/all-NBA caliber player. You have to take risks to get that type of player, you don’t get him for peanuts.
