I love everything we have done so far this summer but if we roll with Powell as our starting center again next year then we have done nothing to fix our biggest problem for the last two seasons, depressing.

  2. Beef_Dirky

I just cant believe we are going to start Dwight Powell for a 9th straight year… The worst starting center in the league, without upgrading, for 9 straight years…

Are we in some sort of social experiment? Lets see how long they’ll put up with it!

  3. ConvolutedMaze

I’m okay with seeing what we have with Lively and Holmes tbh. At least for the first part of the season. We added a lot of pieces this off-season I’m happy about it.

  4. hurricanesznsover

But those of us who said Powell signing for cheap meant nothing and he was still guaranteed to start got crucified here.

  5. Why powell. Both lively and Holmes are better than him. The only way to get him out of the rotation would be a injury.

  6. Dirks_Knee

Here we go. Guarantee to be the worst defensive rebounding team in the league again.

  7. moving_waves

Keep in mind this could be the front office using the media to influence the trade market i.e. more leverage in not coming across desperate.

  8. At least holmes or lively can show us something different. We already know that we are gonna lose with Powell.

I’m a big Dwight defender. I think that what he does in the pic n roll, finishing at the rim, screening, and switch defense is greatly underapreciated by this fan base…but he is not capable of being the starting center on a contender.

Edit: Why do some many Mavs fans take issue with the idea that Dwight does some things pretty well lol?

They said it was a great signing because it was a bargain contract. He surely won’t be the starter. You’ll are overacting and too negative. On the flip side, this is what we “Dwight Haters” were afraid was the most likely and obvious result if he remained on this roster.

Then I guess we are also content wasting everyone’s time! Nice!

  12. PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Why in the fuck would you start Powell over Holmes?

  13. TXlandon

This is obviously a disappointment but people throwing a tantrum about this offense solely because of this are ridiculous

We added a good starter in Grant Williams and 2 key foundational pieces for the future in Lively and OMax. Yes, we still need a starting C who rebounds and protects the rim, but spending a ton of assets to acquire this player who likely won’t play much in the playoffs would be a waste

I have no doubt we canvassed for JV, Capela, etc to see what those teams wanted. And offseason’s not done

  14. McGee was also claimed as the starter. But he only started a few games.

  15. i_take_shits

We didn’t get the stop gap we wanted, but we got the stop gap we deserved

  16. lilsaucy32

im gonna wait till opening day to see what happens, no point in fuming now

This is posturing people. They are using Cato strategically. The whole league has potential trade pitches suspended, they are being held hostage by the Harden and Lillard situations. Hell there is probably a Siakam mega move that can’t get done until those Star players get traded… it’s a Cold War game of chicken negotiations right now, and mavs are just trying to show strength in negotiations that they are not desperate and thirsty for a starting center, and won’t just accept any kind of deal.

I’m not saying they won’t start powell, if they can’t get a move done, but that is NOT what this report truly means.

  18. Naaah. Its a power move. Nico have fixed our every need so far except big man. Unless he plans to make a big move in deadline or next summer, we will get a stopgap center. Even if hes not planning to make big move for someone like KAT,Gobert,Embiid we will land a stopgap center. Im eyeing Capela or Zubac during Harden/Siakam/Dame trades. Then he is gonna try to get PJ or like Bojan with Tim and split MLE on Seth and some wing like Ayo or Oubre or DJJ.

  19. AtreusIsBack

This is actual proof that we live in a simulation. The front office is running a test.

  20. MrQuiteLimited9

Great offseason, but I can’t give it any higher than a B if Dwight is still our starting center. That was by far our biggest need and it goes unaddressed

  21. Shift_Tex

“The more things change, the more they stay the same.” – Dwight Powell after dropping 30/15/10 with 8 blocks in the finals.

  22. petrefax

So we’ll enter the season with the same two fatal flaws (interior defense and rebounding) as last season. Nice.

  23. IAmHotStickySweet

Powell Yesterday, Powell Today, Powell Forever.

Funny thing is if they said the Mavs were working hard to upgrade at center, y’all would be complaining that they were ruining their negotiation leverage. I think we are doing the right thing to wait and see who decides to move a center like Capella in trades for Siakam or Dame

  27. So, can we just start designing the statue already?
