RETROSPECTIVE- it’s been 4 years since news dropped the Knicks passed on Durant over his injury and pursued Randle instead. Was it the right move?
The Knicks and owner Jim Dolan were not prepared to offer Kevin Durant a full max contract due to concerns over his recovery from the Achilles injury, league sources tell me and @wojespn. Knicks officials are in Los Angeles tonight, meeting with free agents such as Julius Randle.

I don’t believe that is really what happened. I think they knew he was going to Brooklyn and wanted to get ahead of the story. He and Kyrie were destined to blow up any team they went to, so it’s hard to imagine that it would have been any different with the Knicks.
Our roster was pretty much a blank slate that season. Brooklyn had more than a blank slate, and look how that ended. It’s a crap shoot

But in hindsight it’s looking good.
KD would’ve bolted anyways.
KD is a loser who’s more worried about his social media tough guy act than he is about winning. Individual stat stuffer. Not a guy to build a winning culture around at this (or 4 years ago) point of his career.
Great player, but getting too brittle at almost 35 to pin your hopes on long-term. Can he win with Phoenix this year? I wouldn’t rule it out. Would it have worked out in NY? I don’t think so.
we’ll never know for sure – but none of us would want the knicks to trade places with the nets right now. So we good over here.
Unfortunately signing KD along with Kyrie was a package deal.
I mean I thought Stephon Marbury was unequivocally the right move. Was the quickest jersey I ever scooped. So what do I know?

I only think that Durant would’ve been a good move only if we would’ve avoided Kyrie. Had we gotten them both, then the same fate would’ve fallen on us. Otherwise, I think this wound up being a better org for KD. Oh well
