Trae Young on Luka Doncic comparisons: “I don’t even stress over it no more. I know the real ones get it. I feel like for me, once I win a championship, it’ll even open up more eyes to what I’ve really done.“

> “To be honest with you, I have no hate towards nobody, especially Luka. We talk all the time. We got a lot of love for each other, a lot of respect for each other. There’s different agendas, and the way people look at certain people is different. To be honest, I don’t get caught up into it.”

Yes Trae. Once you win the championship, it will.

  2. HopScotchyScotch

Ummm no. Luka is another level. Trae is solid no doubt but no.

  3. Solid-Confidence-966

They’ve had comparable supporting casts and having both taking their teams to the conference finals. Doncic is a better player, but Young is no slouch himself.

  4. IversonsSleeve

In my opinion the Hawks are going to be wayyyy better then the Mavs and will be champ contenders and Trae is 1B to lukas 1A (really not that much better) and thats cause Trae is short…..just my opinion again !

  5. CptCroissant

Yup just get right on winning that championship there Trae

  6. TheLastSecondShot

I love Trae’s game and style. If he can get his 3 point shooting back on track, he’ll be one of the best offensive players in the league. He is always going to be compared to Luka because of that trade, no matter how unfair it is to hold him to that standard

  7. Acceptable-Taste-912

Trae’s in a spot where the Hawks have to outperform the Grizzles for Trae to be considered better than Ja while at the same time Trae has to put up better stats than Luka to be considered better, because in that case the team around these players now matters & we can’t just judge them based on how good their team is.

  8. send-inspiration

You can really tell who watches the Hawks with these comments. This was Trae first year playing with another current all-star, but you got people out here saying Atlanta has had a championship roster for the past couple of years.

  9. Shade_Raven

Someone explain to me why yall think Luka needs the Hawks roster to make the playoffs?

  10. TheLoneliestMonke

I’ll give Trae this. I still think he’s the 2nd or 3rd best player of that draft class. Ayton and Bagley had no right being drafted ahead of him

  11. This sub discussing the Hawks/Trae is that “I’m gonna skim the box score and argue with people who watched the game” meme come to life, every time

  12. A-Confused-Comet

Trae is certainly no Luka caliber but he is very very good compared to what we usually see abt him on reddit and Twitter, if Hawks end up getting Pascal and they become consistent deep playoff/contender team, ppl will appreciate how good of a PG he really is

  13. cirenman

Genuinely think Trae is one of the most underrated players in the league lol

  14. Flabbypuff

Tbh he’s not terribly wrong at all, both are P&R maestros who can score and pass at elite volume out of that action, but struggle mightily when operating offball. Luka is a much better mismatch hunter tho.

  15. DEEZLE13

Gotta put the blame on people calling it the “most balanced trade ever”

  16. NawfSideNative

I’ve been a Hawks fan for years. What is completely insane to me is how people act like trading Luka for Trae was a generational mistake by the Hawks. We once selected Marvin Williams over Chris Paul.

Trading Luka and getting our best player since Dominique Wilkins in return isn’t nearly as bad as that. I understand most people believe Luka is better and I’m not interested in changing their opinions on that, but I hate people acting like this trade was one-sided. You would think Trae is a bust from how people talk about it. The Hawks literally got a star to build around in return for Luka.

  17. skullcandy541

Am I the only one who doesn’t compare these two at all?

  18. Shade_Raven

/r/nba treat Trae Young likes he’s Ty Lawson

  19. thedon041

Both are great players but putting the teammates debate below aside, one guy does seem to be playing better in the playoffs and the other seems to dip below his regular season numbers.

Trae Young has averaged 26.4 points, 9.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 27 games in the playoffs in his career. FG% 40.2, 3P% 29.7, FT% 85.2

Luka Doncic has averaged 32.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists in 28 games in the playoffs in his career. FG% 47.3, 3P% 36.6, FT% 69.2

  20. King_Von_Forever

Lol how TF is Trae in the same universe as Luka?

  21. The real ones do get it. Luka is significantly better, but Trae is still really good

  22. Successful_Cup_1882

Luka is a top 5 player in the nba right now and trae just isn’t, nor has he ever been close. He doesn’t need to win the MVP he just needs to get better to put him closer to the man the hawks traded him for.

  23. Pandamonium-23

He’ll never win shit as the best player on a team, now Luka on the other hand might

  24. tryndamere12345

Luka is Booker’s father. Who is Trae’s son?

  25. therealunbread

I’ll cheer for Atlanta just because of how awesome their fans were when they came to Milwaukee for the ECF.

  26. MiserableSoft2344

One led his team to an Eastern Conference Finals, the other is on a team that just tanked with a perennial superstar.

    Winning solves everything.

  27. blacksoxing

The irony is he may win one, but Luka may win two, and someone will still put up an argument between them

  28. Sea_Background5670

Don’t get the comparisons at all. They are such different talents

  29. Charles__Martel

Much better players than Trae have never won a championship.

  30. Huge Luka fan, prob my favourite player right now, but Trae is also one of my favourites, and its somewhat sad how severly underrated he is despite putting up stellar performances in the playoffs, and being ranked below some guys who wont be close to him as the 1st option in the playoffs.

  31. Salamander9687

Holy shit there are a few hawks fans in here that are delusional lmfao

  32. StevenVsGoliath

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Trae Young is both the most overrated and underrated player in the NBA

  33. Neversleep1331

Anything Trae does gets overlooked because of Luka and the other young guards having splash seasons. But he’s been consistently a high volume scorer and facilitator while being a very small guard. Sure his efficiency wavers and his defense is bad (though he can’t really control that) but he’s still one of the most consistent players in the game

  34. FarAd6557

    “Once I win a championship”

I’ll take things that’ll never happen for $400

  35. Romofan1973

Mature, sensible comments. Everybody can’t be Luka, but Trae has had his moments.
