The Lakers acquired the Cav’s 1982 #1 pick two years before the draft. If the dumbasses on this sub were around back then, they probably would have been screaming for Dr. Buss to “Fuck That Pick”over the course of those two years.
The Lakers held onto it and it turned into the #1 overall pick. The Lakers were in a GREAT “no lose” situation as Worthy, Terry Cummings, and Dominique (the Human Highlight Reel) Wilkins were available. There was no clear cut choice between the three and there was a lot of speculation as to who the Lakers would select. Either of them would have been a fine pick for the Lakers, and I had visions of Magic feeding Wilkins on the break for him to destroy the rim with his thunderous dunks.
In the end, there is no doubt the Lakers made the best choice for the best fit for them. Worked out well and was thrilling to watch Big Game James do his thing!!
