In past two seasons they have player's playing in starting 5 like campazo,Moris, Barton,Rivers,Bones and so on…of course they would struggle in defense… offense work just because of Jokić give everyone Open shoot that even rivers could make it!I mean JGreen was in starting 5,man who can't get 1 rebound if his life depends on it!
So there is no some secret or who knows what… when you get rid of all those G-league payers and you put someone like KSP,BB and CB with AD and MPJ,JM coming back you get team like this who play like that!
This is well rounded team and with Jokić in the middle…you get championship team 1/1!
Now when you compare that nuggets team from the two seasons ago with this Nuggets team right now you can see it wasn't Jokic playing bad defense as many "analysts" were lying he was. Blaming it all on Jokic was dishonest and part of the narrative.

If jokic becomes an elite defender it would unfair for NBA, the same goes to Giannis if he was an 85% free throw shooter it would be unfair.. and if Embiid doesn't choke in the playoffs it would be unfair also., So it's just balanced..
Yeah they came up short because of their defense, not because mpj and Jamal were injured.
They still are getting beat in the midrange,it's just they have th offense to out score it.
Injuries are why this is their 1st chip, not strategy.
Just my opinion:
1. Improved overall team defense.
2. Improved individual defense by MPJ and Joker.
3. Improved roster by jettisoning weak defenders such as Will Barton , Campazo, and Montee Morris, and replacing them with good defenders in KCP, Bruce Brown, and Christian Braun.
Nuggets have evolved over the course of this season from a team with talent, to a legitimate championship contender mainly due to their defense.
Yeah, it was Jokić fault that he was forced to play with 5ft 10in Facu Campazzo who can't even stay in front of the ball, pre back surgery MPJ who forgets what he is supposed to do half of the time and Will the Thrill Burton whom no one ever accused of playing good defense.
Not even prime Gobert could help that defense and certainly not Jokić who is actually a good defender just not super elite one due to his physical limitations.
Gordon has proven to be a valuable defensive piece for Nuggets .
One major difference is that his teammates are healthy now, and having Brown and KCP is definitely better than having Austin Rivers, Will Barton and Campazzo
OMG! Imagine a team with a few guys that are 7ft, 6'10 etc being able to play good D! Its like the past 10years of rubbish midget ball NBA has wiped people's brains of how to play basketball.
Also you have to commend Jokics general improvements. It came with his decision-making, but he just knows what is best for his team all the time. Even with his use of kicking the ball when opponents have momentum. Everything about him is efficient, and the Nuggets are formatted perfectly around it. Literal 2014 Spurs level team-play

I agree that the improved defense has made a big difference. However, to say that it is THE single reason they are better this season than past seasons ids shortsighted and ignores the fact that getting Murray and Porter back healthy has had as much, of not more, impact on the team’s performance. I don’t disagree with the video’s analysis, only with the fact that it never mentions that their second and third best players were missing the past two seasons.

God people are so dumb it wasn't the defense that was the problem the last 2 years it was fucking not having jamal murray or mpj. Ya bad defense was a side effect of having terribly constructed teams the past 2 years
The trade for Aaron Gordan was a wonderful trade and I believe it all started from picking him up. Now that Jamal Murray is healthy this team is showing everyone why they was in the WCF back in the bubble.
Saying jokic was a liability in the past two seasons is missing some context, no center in the league would be able to defend well with the perimeter players jokic had those years.

Tall/long and fast defenders (Gordon & Porter Jr.) helps a lot. Otherwise Jokic looks the same.
Man Gordon has been huge the whole season, just a hard worker,even if he has a slump he never stops working on defense. Doesn't get demoralized.

In short. Nuggets has long wings that are fast enough to challenge drives by opposing guards and are tall enough to bother opposing bigs.

Every element has improved. The roster rebuild sent out minus defenders and added plus defenders. Two key starters, Jokic and MPJ, improved their defense. It took them a while to adapt to Ryan Saunders D, plus Saunders and Malone adapted their D to the personnel through the season. Next season will see more minutes for Braun and the addition of Peyton Watson to the rotation, both plus defenders. Also they will start the season very comfortable with the defensive scheme. So this should be an ongoing positive for the Nuggets.
