FIBA are currently using a glass floor with LED’s, making a dynamic court that can react to plays.

Glass floors with LED’s have been around for a while, mainly being used at sports venues that are multi use and need to change sport to sport, however, I’ve never seen a floor like this used in elite level competition.

Hey, as long as player don’t feel the difference, why not? That actually cool as hell

  2. FBOM0101

Cool as hell but seems like it would be crazy distracting for players

  3. This looks really cool. I’d like to see how it would look with something a little more subtle like maybe when a player shoots a three the line glows white then turns green if they make it or something

not sure about the LED glass floors, but the colors are fire

what a fail. Give me some parquet. This is some advertising bullshit. Ugly digital shit

  6. This just going to be another huge advertising board. No, thank you.

i sense two issues here, the first more basketballs related and the second from a personal belief standpoint

the basketball concern- wouldn’t it feel different? the bitch of the ball, the way the sneakers interact and so on. Feels like an unnecessary change to get used to.

the more personal side – frankly, this is a weird step towards making things more synthetic and ultimately, advertiser friendly. The NBA is already going in a consumer product first direction, this kind of court would mean loads of advertising opportunities and frankly i’m already annoyed with the amount of advertising going on (in and out of basketball in our daily lives)

It’s all fun and games until someone hacks in to play inappropriate videos.

  9. paddiction

The NBA already CGIs ads onto the court. This wouldn’t be any different

I want to watch basketball not a fucking floor

This could be cool for before the game and at halftime but the court shouldn’t change visuals in the middle of a game

I think it would be cool but idk how practical it is since lots of NBA stadiums double as venues of other events and the floor needs to be disassembled.

This would be amazing for something like the big3. you make a alley oop dunk and your three point line gets a couple feet shorter, if someone gets a tech their next FT is from half court.

Honestly this technology is wasted on normal sport but could be amazing for a spectacle

That would be disorienting as shit, and a huge distraction to the players. Imagine you’re just dribbling the ball looking to get into your offense and the court just keeps showing stuff for every dribble of the ball, every step that every player takes, and then out of nowhere a Taco Bell ad pops up.

It seems like a gimmick that would get old fast. While the game is being played I would rather not have all these extra bells and whistles. There is already too much of it sometimes with all the sound effects that get played during the game. It chokes the atmosphere out of the game I think.

  15. fartalldaylong

That looks horrible to have to play on.

  16. Awwh_Dood

I want this so someone can hack the floor during the NBA Finals and play the AD locker room clip for the whole stadium

  17. TurbulentJudge1000

This is just so they can make more money for advertising. I’m not going to pretend it’ll be for anything besides that or possibly distracting opponents with some “technical difficulties”.

making a dynamic court that can displays even more ads*

  19. silentorange813

Having the shot clock wind down on the floor would be nice.

I can’t wait for the conspiracy theories to pop up if this becomes a thing. Like league officials moved the line forward a few inches to make sure the preferred team got the win. That’s the problem with the dynamic nature they’re touting. You can’t trust it. A standard painted line is easier to accept.

  21. berriesnbball_17

Damn I can’t wait to see how many more Ads they can shove down our throat with this

  22. Adventurous_Kiwi9120

This Three point shot has been brought to you by Taco Bell.

The odds of team A winning are now 35%. Visit bettingruinsbasketball.fu now to lose your money like a jackass.

Here is the player’s instagram feed while he takes free throws.

No thank you. This is stupid.

  23. junoHewhiham

Are practice facilities going to have similar floors? Otherwise I think players are going to have to adjust to this floor every game. Maybe it feels the same, but I think playing on a giant screen, while maybe not a complete distraction to a focused athlete, could still require a little bit of a visual adjustment to play on.

  24. Scary-Strategy-4460

Maybe I’m just a Luddite but I acc don’t see the need to squeeze advertising and rent profits into everything

  25. whereaboutsof

As someone with ADHD, this would be my worst nightmare as a player

  26. Wants_to_be_accepted

NBA Jam style bonus point shot locations when?

  27. Lvl99Cheerio

The idea is cool but like others said, kinda tacky, plus I found it interesting how in the clip they only showed 1 brief angle of what it looks like from tv broadcasts, and it wasn’t too impressive then, lol

  28. This is something stupid and unnecessary that a lot of people online will eat up for being cool and different. If you think it sucks because of *insert one of several valid reasons* you just hate fun

  29. myelrecsy

This will flop. Players will not want this due to feel/distraction and fans would be enraged with all the advertisments from this.

  30. ooSPECTACULARoo

I mean who’s it for? The crowd or TV? I’m sure you could just put graphics for the TV audience.

Crowd will just get bored of it unless they have 1000s of animations or something

  31. u-and-whose-army

I really don’t like where the league seems to be heading.

On all these player hosted basketball podcasts, they talk about how they see 4 point shots becoming a reality someday. These gimmicky floors are horrible too. It all seems created for the enjoyment of elementary school students.

The game itself has been dumbed down too. The best thing they can do for the game is leave it alone, maybe even regress a bit to where defense actually matters again.

  32. vistaprank

I’m kinda disappointed that everybody dislikes the court. I actually find it really cool.

  33. NBA bout to 1up the NHLs shitty digital boards ads. I’m actually curious how terrible a sports league can get before people stop watching. The courts are already super tacky for the playoffs.

  34. More advertising room great no fucking thank you keep that shit away from the nba
