Gary Payton on Damian Lillard: ‘It is just time, time for him to make a move to where he wants to go’

Of course this is Payton’s opinion.

Then don’t sign the contract extension.

    Seriously, it’s that simple.

If you want to take into account that the team is ready to go in a different direction, fine, we’ll see if we can find you a good landing spot that also helps the future of the team. Claiming that only one destination will work and your agent trying to discourage all other teams from trading for you is hot garbage. You sign the contract, that contract is an asset owned by the team, and it’s a dirty move to try and diminish the value of that asset in a trade to prevent your future team from having to give up more assets.

I was as upset as everyone else about LMA leaving in free agency, but that move was done the right way by LMA. This asking out after signing a huge contract needs to result in stiffer penalties, and I’m saying this as someone that’s normally much more in favor of players over owners. Signed contracts need to matter.

The system is broken with supermaxes. The whole point of them is to sign for more money than elsewhere. So Dame extends to get that extra money and the next offseason he can force his way to 1 specific team and still get that money? Makes 0 sense

He can make a move when he’s a free agent, not after he opted into a extension.

I didn’t realize it’s 2025. Oh it’s not? Dames literally in a contract until then? Well darn I guess we have to find a trade that works for both sides. Portland gave Dame enough money to pile it vertically until it collides with a airplane. Give me a break GP.

GP2 known Blazers supporter and not obvious dickhead

  6. He made that decision last year when he signed an extension.

Remind Scoot in 2034 that after serving 11 years as your best player and franchise legend, and Portland still surely without an NBA title… if he requests a trade to just 1 team when he’s under contract after desperately trying to convince ownership to compete for years, he will be hated! 😂😂😂

    *Where HE WANTS to go

That’s not how it works buddy

What about two or three places he wants to go?

  12. He opted to get the supermax extension…he is in the team’s hand. He has no leverage at alll. If he wanted flexibility, and allow the Blazers to have some extra cap space to increase the chance to get FAs he should have signed a shorter/smaller deal. This is not rocket science…

    Toradol has clouded Gary’s judgement.

  14. Why do we care what anyone thinks who isn’t a part of the negotiations.
