    >…and chose to preserve cap space as a salary dump destination for future draft pick compensation.

    >The Rockets were also closely monitoring Reaves’ situation because they were prepared to make a big offer sheet if Fred VanVleet didn’t sign with them, sources said.

They were scared because it was true.

Very well played by the Lakers. Fully committing to signing him no matter what, saved them money in the long haul.

  3. mMounirM

they should have done Austin Reaves a solid and made the offer

  4. Next-Firefighter-753

Think about how much better the Rockets would have been if they signed Reaves over Fred VanChuck for half the price

  5. Rockets couldve still bid for Reaves though after signing FVV.

they cleared north of $20m for Lopez and used that to sign Jeff Green, Landale, etc.

couldve given Reaves an offer sheet bc those players werent getting bigger deals elsewhere

  6. KaiserKaiba

Which makes sense and really was pretty obvious to anyone who didn’t have the blind mindset of wanting teams to fuck with the Lakers

  7. MrAppleSpoink

I love watching people get mad cause other teams didn’t fuck themselves over just to fuck over the Lakers.

  8. MagicMer4042

I think reaves would’ve been a really interesting fit on the roster next to wemby, but I get it on not wanting to commit to it and losing the cap flexibility if the lakers were just gonna match

  9. nicklovin508

I mean if you’re so confident the Lakers will match anything, why not offer it just to screw them over a bit?

  10. abstract_contact

What’s the downside of offering? Why be afraid a team will match?

  11. droreddit

What moves did the Spurs make this offseason that would have been held up?

  12. Reaves got fucked over and LAL got him for cheap crazy

  13. That doesn’t make sense to me. If they knew the Lakers would match, why not drive up the price and force them to match? Is Pop getting soft on the Lakers in his old age?

  14. Wondering_Nova

Why are people mad that teams didn’t line up to fuck the Lakers? People are really astonished that business owners worth millions don’t throw money around to screw over other people, shocking I know.

  15. ElliottP1707

Isn’t that even more reason to do it. You’d fuck over the Lakers payroll even if you didn’t get him.

  16. Jicama-Smart

I mean, were the other moves that much of a better option? make those Lakers pay man.

  17. joebrizphotos

Scared about what? So they match, who the fuck cares?

    Am I missing something?

  18. Datusbit

Sorry im confused. If other teams knew the Lakers were gonna match for sure, isnt there no downside to other teams offering Reaves as big a contract as possible to get the Lakers to pay? If the Lakers always match, I dont understand the risk for other teams

  19. lol this sub was so convinced they’d do it specifically to screw the Lakers and are still big mad it didn’t happen

these are hundred million dollar businesses at the end of the day

actual negotiating doesn’t work like trying to screw over another Fortnite player for the kitty cat outfit you want

  20. mallllls

Thank god they didn’t waste 21 mil per year and a roster spot on him

  21. garrett7289

Lol it’s amazing that so many people are confused. I’m a Lakers fan and even I know that the world doesn’t revolve around them. The spurs did what was best for them, last thing they’re thinking about is the Lakers. What else is there to actually discuss? The what ifs and shit? 🤣

  22. gbdarknight77

But people told me that the spurs or rockets would offer a max to fuck the lakers lol

  23. leonardo201818

So? Everyone should be in the business of making sure the lakers would be salary cap fucked.

  24. RustyCraver

Now Austin Reaves gets 7 million less than 21m/year.

  25. IcMembership0

Very well played by the Lakers. Fully committing to signing him no matter what, saved them money in the long haul.

  26. SmitherPablo

Why would that scare them off tho? If Lakers match it, oh well, you made them spent more money. If they didn’t, well, then you got a good player.

  27. kindalikeacoustic

The haters still think Pelinka doesn’t know what he’s doing . Any team that gave him an offer sheet , with malicious intentions for the Lakers , would have themselves screwed . The Lakers could have waited as long as possible to match the offer , thus preventing that team from using their own cap space .

  28. Lol gotta love r/nba crying about the Lakers not getting screwed over
