(Weiss) Extension talks dragged on for weeks, with the two sides landing on a fully guaranteed supermax deal. Brown didn’t get the player option, but he secured a trade kicker that will be the lesser of seven percent of unearned base compensation or $7 million, according to a league source.

Brown really wanted the number 7 everywhere in his contract lol

Edit: Just some numbers to think about with this trade kicker, (assume a 10% cap increase, as this increase in cap also indicates the max Brown’s contract can rise if traded)

    – If traded in the 2024-2025 season the trade kicker will not increase his salary at all
    – If traded in the 2025-2026 season the trade kicker will increase his salary by 1 million (for that year)
    – If traded in the 2026-2027 season the trade kicker will increase his salary by 2.27 million (for that year)
    – If traded in the 2027-2028 season the trade kicker will increase his salary by 3.72 million (for that year)
    – If traded in the 2028-2029 season the trade kicker will increase his salary by 4.98 million (for that year)

What’s funny is that I don’t think the trade kicker ever raises his salary enough to reach either the 7% of unearned base compensation nor that 7 million dollar number for any year, but the last year where the raise would be about 400k more than 7%. A lot of this seems more symbolic than anything.

Would have been super cool to get a couple million non-guaranteed in incentives worked in, but I’m sure Jaylen wouldn’t have gone for it. The main thing is that we got him locked down.

Also its interesting that the front office really wanted no player option. They must think the contract will still be a positive one by the time it hits its final year

  3. At least now we know Jaylen REALLY loves the number 7

    Is his favorite movie se7en?
