Cavs don’t need to announce it, it’s a given. Lakers seem desperate to get on his good side in the last year of his contract by leaking this
As much as the Lakers and Heat want to pretend. Nothing will ever top what he did for Cleveland.
He’s a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cavs are trying to beat them. Now is not the time to put him in the rafters.
Once he retires, there will be a number retirement ceremony, his family and kids from the I Promise School will be there. Tears will be shed. He will say things like “My greatest accomplishment as an athlete will always be bringing a championship to Northeast Ohio.” People will cheer. The statue and number will be revealed. I would be surprised if it wasn’t announced quickly after he retires.
Plan should be for a statue, not just a jersey retirement
The lakers announced it cuz it was not a 100% sure deal. Obviously the cavs will retire his number. No reason to announce anything till after he retires though
