Kobe on load management: “It’s your job to be ready to perform every night. We had a game against Toronto, where my back was spasming. The perception would’ve been Kobe is ducking Vince Carter. I was like – excuse me? I don’t think so”

Ironic looking back at the famous Embiid Jokic game in Denver late last season.

  1. Things have changed so much in the NBA since then.

  2. I think Jayson Tatum said something similar, and it has merit because he’s played the most minutes in the NBA over the last 5 years IIRC. Wish more players had this mindset

Embiid, Zion, The Clippers can suck brick.

Tickets can be pretty damn expensive. Players owe it to the fans to compete when families are paying 500+ to see them play

Then unfortunately, Kobe load managed a lot in his last 2-3 seasons. That last season in particular. His body had given up on him. He needed to do so much just to get to the finish line at the end of the year. Man had ice packs taped to his knees and left shoulder just for the minutes he wasn’t playing and would take them off when it was time to go back in. When you consider all he went through that last year, 60 points in his final game is one of the most amazing feats I’ve ever witnessed on a basketball court. He truly left it all on the court. He had nothing left to give.

Can’t wait till they get rid of load management .

  7. Kobe was different. A different breed compared to the soft ass superstars of today who duck games against their rivals because of minor stuff.

I pushed my body to the limit and never missed a single sports game through college. My body is a little fucked up now but I dont regret it at all. I would never take for granted the good times and the privilege I had to be able to play all my favorite sports from 5 years old to 20. I might have some joint and back pain but I would do it again if I could. To think of how people like Kobe do it for *twice* as long as I did is nothing short of phenomenal.

literally no correlation or irony at all

  10. Kobe lived for these kind of moments and yeah I really wish Embiid would have wanted that head to head with Jokic.

My hot take is that load management is good actually and the problem is actually the greedy inflation of ticket prices by NBA teams. If players and coaches are being judged/evaluated based on their ability to win playoff series and championships then they simply must load manage, just how it goes

I think ultimately the difference is that there aren’t any superstars nowadays that worry about specific matchups against specific players, and the optics that come with those matchups.

It’s not the fans count by the way we’ve come to completely ignore great regular season performances, it’s all so much about the playoffs and nothing else.

If a court case can’t prevent Kobe from playing that night, the other players have no excuse

Man I paid for 5th row tickets during his last season to watch him play against the Magic. He sat out due to injury 😭.

  15. Kuni_Nino

Kobe still a real one. Damn I miss him so much.

why does every basketball clip pulled from youtube shorts either have sad piano music or like that badass guitar twang? why cant anyone just let the clips play on their own lmao

Kobe loved going up against the best at his position. You could see his intensity in defense and the opponent SG didn’t always appreciate the aggressiveness. You could tell who was about that life, the ones who went back at Kobe. Gilbert Arenas was one of them, Iverson too.

That’s also not healthy if you’re actually injured. That’s pride talking.

I respect the mentality, but an 82 game season is insane. The season really should be shorter than it is, and back to backs should be eliminated. But money will never lead to a shorter season being considered.

  20. sharklavapit

    fuck Kobe man

stans can say whatever they want, he admitted to having non-consensual sex

  21. jackaholicus

The game is way harder to play now and each possession requires more effort than in the past
