Mike Breen called 15 NBA Finals with Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson. The trio were synonymous with the sport’s biggest event. But ESPN decided to end the broadcast team by firing Van Gundy in late June and Jackson on Monday.
This has left Breen stunned and disappointed.
ESPN is expected to promote Doris Burke and hire Doc Rivers and put them next to Breen, who declined to comment on his potential new partners as it is not official.

I still can’t believe I’m about to hear BOTH Doc Rivers and Doris Burke commentating next to Breen. I understand Doc used to be a great commentator but I simply can’t tolerate his voice. And Doris is even more insufferable.
Like, I always knew ESPN was bad, but I can’t believe they actually thought putting both of them in the Finals cast is a good idea.
Would be crazy if Breen was like “about time, those guys suck.”

Doris was cool as a sideline reporter. Having to hear her voice for 48min tho is crazy.
Doris Burke has lost her appeal and Doc Rivers would be torturous to listen to.
Wasn’t the whole reason to fire JVG to keep Mark Jackson because a higher up liked him so JVG got axed.
Now they ended up firing Mark Jackson anyway, so they fired JVG for fuck all 😭

That’s because they were so shitty so often that they made Breen look even better in contrast.
I personally loved having JVG on games. It was like having Larry David as a commentator.
Plus he’s been a made man in my book, ever since he took that headbutt from Marcus Camby AND also tried to break up a scrum by literally grabbing onto his players legs and getting rag dolled around for a sec. That one might’ve also been Camby. Can’t remember.
It’s a little different for Breen since due all their Knicke connections, he’s known these two for around 34 years.
I was stunned myself when they got rid of Van Gundy. I found that trio highly entertaining. I love Doris and I’m excited to hear what she brings to the new line up. I always felt she deserved a bigger role. I just didn’t know it would be replacing my guy JVG.

I’m intrigued for doc and breen together for sure but Doris Burke into that mix not so much shit I’d rather them have P.J. Carlisomo instead

ESPN just did something truly miraculous and turned losing Mark Jackson into an L. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Unbelievably impressive. Its only fitting that Doc Rivers was a part of this moment

Please keep Breen, he was by far the best of them. Gundy and Jackson mean I have to watch the game on mute. They are such a distraction, off topic, stupid takes, canned lines, argueing about how refs should call by different rules, etc.
How does Breen not quit? He already has a great job as the main Knicks guy. He doesn’t need ESPN as much as ESPN needs him. Yea I’m sure they’ll just go with Doris Burke without him. How much could ESPN have possibly saved firing JVG?

JVG and Mark Jackson are probably the 2 worst nba commentators over the course of my 30-40 years of watching nba basketball.
