[Charania] O.G. Anunoby is expected to receive well over $30 million per year on his next contract. The Raptors could offer Anunoby an extension in October, but it is capped at around $117 million over four years, a number that would likely be easily surpassed in free agency.

> There were also multi-pick offers for O.G. Anunoby, who has a player option for the 2024-25 season, at the deadline, although the upside value of many of the first-round picks offered is believed to have been low.

Unfortunately OG and Pascal have very little incentive to sign before the season starts.

Its an uncomfortable conversation, as he is such a fan favourite and we are already a poor shooting team. But I think we should be offering Pascal the max extension and trading OG.

OG is 100% testing free agency as the extension we can offer is significantly below what he will get in free agancy. All it takes is one team to offer an overpay. There are a number of quality teams on the come up that will have cap space burning a hole in their pockets (Indy / Orlando / SA / Philly). Plus there have been a couple of reports about OG not loving his role in Toronto. Letting him get to free agency and walk for nothing would be an unmitigated disaster.

The best 3+D wing in the league would have a glut of suitors that would offer a more palatable return than what we seem to be getting for Siakam.

I think everyone knows OG is hitting free agency, his max extension just isn’t enough.

And I wonder if that’s contributing to the hesitancy to extend Pascal. In theory it should be very simple. You shop Pascal, the offers are underwhelming because he is an expiring and made it known he won’t sign an extension with the team that trades for him. So with subpar offers, you engage in extension talks.

But the Raptors aren’t even trying to talk extension. Sure it’s unlikely Pascal would take it because he can try for a supermax but the Raptors haven’t even offered an extension/talked with him about it according to many reports.

So why? My theory is that it’s because they’re concerned if they keep Siakam, it’ll be harder to convince OG to re-sign given he’s gonna be like the 3rd/4th option going forward (Pascal/Gary/Scottie in theory ahead, even if OG is scoring more than Scottie, it’s likely that Scottie has more usage and the ball in his hands more).

And people wonder why you can’t pay everybody.

    Pascal,
    OG,
    GTJ,
    Precious,
    Scottie,

All 5 of the players above will either be a UFA, an RFA or be eligible for the rookie max extension in the summer of 2024

With the position the team is in and the positional overlap it’s been clear for a while now that either OG or Siakam will be traded because of said positional overlap and once again you can’t pay everybody.

Sounds like a big overpay, I can’t see many teams vying to grab OG for something like 30+ a year

So basically without extensions to pascal or OG next offseason we could potentially lose both for nothing?

OG about to demand like 40 mill in FA and a team like Indiana will prolly have the cap space and will be willing to pay him a crazy amount

I’m good with trading OG but if he goes elsewhere and becomes a superstar I’ll also be good with firing the FO.

This is why you trade pascal. Gotta use that money for OG and he fits Scottie’s timeline

I think $30 million is perfect for OG. Considered the best 1 on 1 defender in the league despite having the toughest matchups.

I will be finding a method to bet money on OG walking for nothing in next year’s off season.

FO love betting on themselves and losing. Patient to a fault

The worst case scenario is if O.G and Siakam don’t re-sign. And if we keep them going into the year, I feel OG would be upset as he’s still the third option (behind Barnes and Siakam). Siakam would push for a super max and we wouldn’t do it. This is a real possibility of happening and our front office let this happen a lot of times.

Watch us end up losing everyone from our title team for nothing, it’s Kawhi, Gasol, Ibaka, Green and FVV already. So far it’s just Lowry and Powell that’s gotten us something back.
