@Brooklyn Nets

Nets future assets are among the best in the NBA, but will they use them correctly?

Over the next many years the Nets will control draft picks from the Phoenix Suns thanks to the Kevin Durant trade as well as picks from the Mavericks and the 76ers. But how should Sean Marks and company use these assets as they relate to Mikal Bridges and some other young pieces?

The Locked on Nets guys take a look at where Brooklyn stands over the next few years, how superstars could become available in the coming seasons (Luka Doncic? Joel Embiid?) and what is the best course of action to secure a bright basketball future.

  1. Its hard to get it right with all that power…. Very few have done it… But In Marks i trust

  2. Looking at the immediate future Brooklyn has the fourth most draft capital in the league and has a nice defensive core in Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton….

Looking at players Brooklyn could look at in the future Donovan Mitchell Karl Anthony Towns and Joel Embid come to mind given their uncertain futures after this season at least.

The Suns picks Brooklyn has could become very valuable trade currency in the future as well….

  3. Luka Doncic honestly seems like a pipe dream given Mavs would want every asset Brooklyn has. Joel Embid would become attainable for most of the first round draft picks but the matching salaries could become very tricky.

Donovan Mitchell is a very interesting wild card given he can opt out of his contract next season and isn't looking to sign an extension with the Cavs. A core of Donovan Mitchell Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton đŸ”„ could definitely be a contender.

Lastly Karl Anthony Towns could become a huge trade target after this season given the Timberwolves are building their team around Anthony Edwards. A core of Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Karl Anthony Towns and Nic Claxton could become a top force in the East or a big unknown….

Those are players to look out for if Brooklyn considers using their picks to make a big move in the future….

  4. The financial framework set by the new CBA will play a role in personnel decisions. Astronomical salaries that superstars are getting and what is getting trickled down to the rest of the players will make it challenging to stay within the CBA framework. It seems clear to me that Marks has had these factors in mind as he made moves this off-season. I feel he has done well in that regard so far.

  5. Completely off topic here and all the way from Australia 🇩đŸ‡ș. This season can't start soon enough. Thankfully we have our football season running in the NBA off season. You should checkout our brand of football (no pads) NRL. Might help you get through the weight 😉

  6. I think we will know how the season plays out what we need moving forward. Offensive power ? Maybe at this point it seems that way.

  7. I think this current experiment will run with bridges and whoever else until 2025/26 ish and around that time the nets will either be able to acquire a superstar and build a true title contender with bridges as the 2nd option or pivot off bridges and johnson and other close to 30 vets and embrace a rebuild with the army of valuable assets

  8. It’s hard to plan this stuff out
too much can change from day to day. I think the Nets will stand pat until the trade deadline and then look at what opportunities are available. Even so, I wouldn’t expect anything big.

The goal is to build a good TEAM. Simply getting a superstar player doesn’t guarantee a good team. For example, imo, Luca is such a ball dominant player that you have to build a team around him that can fit into that style.

  9. Doug and Adam, I appreciate your content but the "dream scenario" (Adam's words 20m 17s and Doug's co-sign) is such an egregious point of view. I can't believe you even consider it an option.

First off Houston owe us two first round picks in 2024 and 2026. Draft analysts are saying 2014 is one of the weakest drafts in recent memory. Houston has two pick swaps with us in 2025 and 2027 but these are not picks! We are not giving up first rounders to them in alternate years and Houston don't look like they are gonna be a fantastic team in 2025.

Are you really suggesting we give up Mikal Bridges – a member of the USA national team, the favorite for Most Improved Player this coming season and widely regarded as having the best value/most team friendly multi-year contract in the NBA – for two first rounders and extinguishing the chance of swapping picks?

This is so far from "dream scenario". Who has been advising you Billy King and Bobby Marks? This would be another wholly uneven trade which would set Brooklyn Nets back significantly for many years.

I'm not saying Mikal Bridges is untouchable and there might be a time to move him. But if the Nets wanted to trade Mikal they could demand so much more than our two picks back from Houston in 2024 and 2026.

  10. Cam Johnson looked really good in the team USA game vs Puerto Rico lot of great players looked in great shape was very impressed

  11. I can't lie. I'm 100% behind option 3. At the deadline I would look to make a move with Houston. Anyone ypu want for our picks. Bridges can be had for 4 1st. 3 of our picks and 1 of theirs. 29 or 30. Theb Cam Johnson can go elsewhere for 2 1st etc. After you get the nets picks back. Go put and flip royce, and dfs for at least one 1st each. While keeping all the suns picks.
