In 2019 Chris Paul said Daryl Morey lied to him

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2865390-chris-paul-was-shocked-by-rockets-thunder-trade-after-daryl-moreys-assurance

I get it, you don’t become super successful in the corporate world without being a little shady, but Daryl Morey is now creating a bit of a track record of lying to his players.

If the Sixers underperform in the playoffs again I could see Morey being ousted.

He’s gonna get ousted when that Embiid trade request drops

  2. nibbinoo8

if this ends poorly, does daryl morey ever get another GM job in the nba? i think there’s at least a chance he doesn’t.

  3. Next-Firefighter-753

Remember when people rode this guys nuts constantly for that one trade that happened in 2012

  4. heybobson

meanwhile Sam Hinkie can’t get a job and that man was super honest about what he was doing.

    edit: mixed up my Sams

  5. lugubrea

Harden should just cut a deal with the NBA league office and spill the beans on every under the table deal he has had in his career.

  6. trevortins

This is really not a good look for him and certainly is gonna rub guys the wrong way about going there. In all my years watching sports I’ve never really seen a guy like get that personal about a gm.

  7. Fakeskinsuit

It’s fucking delicious watching this “genius” finally go down the toilet

  8. ToLiveAndDieInICT

Like any corporate suit, Morey is probably very skilled at being extremely vague and letting people come to their own conclusions. All Morey needs to do is plant the seed, and in the case of people like Paul and Harden, their egos and narcissism do the rest of the work.

Sam Hinkie: fired for telling the truth a little bit too directly

Daryl Morey: will be fired for lying uncontrollably and losing the trust of every player he’s worked with

  10. NAACP_YoungBoy

China was right Daryl Morey was the true villain all along 💯

  11. WhenItsHalfPastFive

Hot take: this sub (and most of NBA twitter/ig) will always defend Morey to death because of the whole “free Hong Kong” thing against China. When in reality, it wasn’t some heroic act because he quickly retracted that tweet and apologized for it, because he cost the NBA a lot of money and lost a lot of people’s jobs. And now he’s become kind of an average GM, lost the trust of players he’s worked with like Harden, Chris Paul, and maybe even Embiid in the future if Embiid requests a trade.

And clearly, nobody is willing to criticize him enough.

  12. Morey is fucked.

After all this, he is going to have no creditability with his kids. They will never believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy. I feel so sorry for this kids, their father is a monster!

  13. JimmyWasRight

CP3 is not a good source.

He said the same thing about the Suns and it was proven he knew.

  14. power0fone

GMs seem to be comfortable with backing out of their word on trades, I think it happens all around the league for a long time with the worst consequence being that players may not trust his spot on the team is safe or whatever.

But lying that directly affects a guy’s money? Feels like this could become a career ender. It’s definitely a stain on his career that he’ll carry if he continues to be an NBA GM.

  15. Klutzy-Pen4180

Chris Paul and James Harden each also have a bit of a track record…

  16. The_Outcast4

He 100% treats players as an assets. Harden just happened to be a valuable asset that helped him build his resume. Now that the luster has faded as Harden’s gotten past his prime, there’s no need to treat him any differently.

  17. I don’t see a way Morey avoids getting ousted at all.

Zero chance the Sixers are better this year after all this. They haven’t gotten out of the Semis since Embiid’s been there.

Morey was feasting off the machiavellian dealmaker rep once he got off Simmons’ contract but it amounted to nothing and now he’s gonna get a worse team that does worse and neither of his MVPs have shown that they’re gonna get more clutch in the Playoffs.

  18. TigerKlaw

But did he hold a press conference like he announcing the next game console?

  19. hanselpremium

this is one of the worst implosions of a gm i think since the “get a new slant” era

  20. Party-Ad-7077

Yeah I don’t like morey but I’m not gonna hate him because of harden and cp of all people fuck em

  21. Louis-grabbing-pills

Chris Paul is a dirty player. I don’t care.

  22. BuukSmart

You’re assuming Philly makes the Playoffs…

I think they will, but it’s not crazy that Harden “plays” or doesn’t and Embiid catches an injury early in the season

  23. HarryLundt

LOL, Morey trades CP3 because Harden forces it, and now this is brought up to back up Harden accusing Morey about being a liar.

I wonder what Harden was saying to CP3’s face before he forced his front office to trade CP3.

I wonder what he said about how he would adjust to having a star PG like CP3 and if that matched up with the persistence of Hardenball.

  24. BrightGreenLED

Didn’t Frittata come out and say that the FO didn’t want to trade CP3, but he overrode them because Harden wanted Westbrook?

  25. Cigarillos

And Harden was the one begging Morey to get CP3 traded and off the team behind his back to begin with lol. They both equally scummy.

  26. Rogan4Life

Harden and Tillman are why he was traded lol

  27. Shxcking

Daryl Morey lied to Chris Paul and it hurt him enough to go to the reporters?

I’m building a Morey statue in my room.

  28. That’s actually a BS complain. Tillman Fertitta has forced that deal over Morey’s will and admitted it in public. That eventually forced Daryl to leave Houston once he had a chance, knowing that you can’t work with Tillman properly if you are not a yes man to him. So he may have told CP3 that he won’t trade him to OKC, but Tillman forced a deal nevertheless

    Tillman quote: https://rocketswire.usatoday.com/2019/10/02/rockets-owner-tilman-fertitta-tells-final-hours-of-paul-westbrook-deal/

I was in Europe, and so I was six or seven hours ahead of them. So I’m talking at 2, 3, 4 in the morning. And we just decided to do it. They ran different statistics by me.
My basketball ops [operations] got maybe a little weak at the end, and I just said, ‘We’re doing this. We are going to make the change. We’re going to go after it and roll the dice. We’re going to find that 5 percent.’
The one thing I believe you do in business, and you do in basketball, is you never sit still. You always keep it exciting. Not only is it exciting that we’re a better team, but it’s exciting for the fans. I owe it to them to give them the best opportunity to win a championship every year.

  29. gundamtandem

Chris paul, the guy who pegs guys in the nuts is going to be the person with integrity that were supposed to listen to?

  30. That’s what happens when you put a stats nerd in a position that has an important human component.

  31. Winter_Corner7254

He’s not the only one in the FO who should be gone way before the playoffs

  32. Flaky_Mongoose_1718

I feel like Morey will just step down when shit hits the fan. Isn’t that what he did in Houston or am i tripping

  33. CockMartins

Morey didn’t want to make that trade though. It was forced through by Tillman.

  34. Daryl morey is the nastiest skank bitch I have ever met do not trust him
