[Pompey] The Philadelphia 76ers were only willing to trade James Harden for a package of draft picks, an elite player, or a young player who can turn into one.

> The team was only willing to trade the 10-time All-Star for draft picks, an elite player, or a young player who can turn into one.

> “If we don’t get a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, then we’re just not going to do it,” Morey said July 18 on The Anthony Gargano Show on WPEN-FM 97.5 The Fanatic.

> The problem that is trade talks this summer between the Sixers and the Clippers have been lifeless. The Sixers were unwilling to come off their lofty demands. However, the Clippers and other NBA teams are reluctant to give up an All-Star caliber player and/or multiple first-round picks for a player who has lost a step and is on an expiring contract.

I mean…duh? You’re not gonna trade him for nothing, even if he does bust out the fat suit again

  2. this was news to me

    > according to sources, acquiring Harden was part of the reason Morey was named team president on Nov. 2, 2020.

    > Former Sixers minority owner Michael Rubin wanted to bring Harden to the Sixers to form a dominant duo with Joel Embiid.

  3. So Morey doesnt want to pay him like hes an elite player but wants to get an elite player for him? I cant believe how anyone can be on Morey’s side in this.

  4. Lol who is trading all that for someone with one year left on there deal

Portland has an opportunity to do the funniest thing

  7. Morey keeps hoping everyone other than him thinks it’s 2019 Harden instead of 34 year old 2023 Harden.

Here comes r/nba to get weirdly angry that a GM (not of their own team) doesn’t want to give away a very good player and wants to do best by his team and the organization he works for.

Is it possibly to dislike both harden and morey?

I don’t get the framing here.

Harden just lead the league in assists, while having the best AST/TO ratio & 2nd best 3pt shooting mark of his career.

Draft pick(s) or a young player isn’t the grandest of asks.

lol who in their right mind would trade a package of draft picks, an elite player or a young player who can turn into one for 2023 James Harden

Why isn’t he supposed be going for the best deal he can get?

  15. xiaogangdasha

If philly value harden so high, they should just pay the man. 🤔

I wonder which team, if any, is going to pay that price for Harden knowing you’re going to have to max him, that he will throw games if he ever wants out, and that he chokes in the playoffs.

  17. GlueGuy00

that’s an overpay for an aging Harden on an expiring contract. Clippers better not budge

Sheesh everybody just emptying the clip rn

Just about every advanced basketball statistic has harden as a top 15-20 ranked player in the nba. It’s obviously a drop from when he was top 3 in mvp voting for 5 of 6 straight years, but he’s still an offensive engine shooting 60%+TS and leading the league in assists. Last year.

So he’s not good enough for a 3+ year max contract but he’s good enough to gut your team for according to morey? What a great Gm
