  1. This will be really exciting. I wouldn't have put it quite this early into the regular season as there is excitement early in the season no matter what. The really slow days come a bit later into the season. But nevertheless, this will spice things up massively. Elimination cups with one game to decide who goes on have been a staple in football (both real football that's played with your feet as well as American football) forever. It's special and has its own rules, I'm hyped for this

  2. This is basically like a national cup like they do in Europe for "football" (or soccer in the US). It's mainly a knockout cup competition between all teams whatever their classification.
In French football ligue, they call it "Coupe de France" (literally French cup) and in England it's called ""FA Cup". Basically, all countries in Europe have their own annual knockout football competition.
Pretty sure it's the same as well for basketball in all Europe. The USA just copy us lol

  3. This is amazing. Let’s see if it spurs on the players to care more about the regular season. I hope this becomes a regular fixture over the years.

  4. without any real stakes it won't mean anything. let the winner get better odds in the draft or an automatic home playoff advantage for their round of their choice – like a money in the bank WWE scenario

  5. They have to start expanding the league if they want to have multiple cups and tournaments

  6. I was feeling RJ's energy until he said "NBA Cup"
    😂😂😂😂
They Couldn't get come up with a better name?

  7. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Make adjustments to the officiating not the season. I want the NBA back. RIP David Stern.

  8. What a waste of time and energy. Instead of looking to slow down the hard calendar decreasing the number of games to prevent injuries and presenting a more competitive set of playoff match ups, these idiots do the opposite.

  9. traaaaaash, just shorten a season a bit, give us less back to back games and we can see people play more games because the will be rested

  10. Extra games to cause fatigue and injury. Will not be popular. Sure that first round of group play is using regular scheduled games but every following round uses games on top of the regular season schedule. So if you want to stay fresh and injury free for your season you don't take this silly tournament seriously. NBA Cup? Not a single player cares about this junk.

  11. This new format is simliar to UEFA European contests for football, but sadly they had use the final edition of their format from 2023-24 season and this change is going to be inverted between UEFA and NBA for 2024 season.

UEFA : Swiss System (with 36 teams) (24 advance to next round)

NBA : Group System (with 30 teams) (14 advance to next round)

  12. You should get an automatic spot into the playoffs or something if you win. All this really amounts to is a participation trophy tbh

  13. What's the point though? There should be more incentive for the champion of the in season tournament that impacts the playoffs.

Else, teams are just going to load manage their key players and it's gonna be just another summer league.

  14. I like the “NBA Cup” and the fact that it’s in Las Vegas – the rest of it is too complicated.
