Steven Adams about making the NBA : “Threw my name in the NBA draft – averaged 6 and 6, and yeah went number 12 bro..I was just there for the ride. I had no expectations of even making the NBA. Carlisle was the only one brutally honest with me, “you average 6 and 6, why’d you come out of college”.

The real quote here is that he says it was the (ahem) Anthony Bennett draft. 😂
A head scratcher for sure. Obviously panned out but how do they evaluate big men talent? Zach Eddy has more size, better numbers playing against higher level comp and is expected to go late 2nd round.
Literally selected over Giannis just cause he was 7 feet and decently athletic.
This dude is one of my favorite characters in the league
and still had a better career than anybody in that draft lottery except for CJ McCollum, and maybe KCP or if you value one year really highly, Oladipo.
2013 was an abomination, saved only by Giannis and Gobert at #15 and #27
Cant believe it .. i might have to rewatch this interview again
He’s one of the most likeable people in the NBA
Steven adams is an example of if you can do your limited skill set exceptionally well, you will always have a place in the league
Hail to Pitt!
Steven Adams – what a great attitude about the draft!!
Adams’ a great storyteller but let’s be honest he likely was told teams were interested in him, he knew that going in the draft. Nobody goes in the draft blind these days, especially the first round.
Also likely has an agent who stayed updated on teams’ interest in him. Scouts kept an eye on him since he left New Zealand. Teams don’t choose the 12th pick lightly.
Not to mention a mobile 7-footer is always coveted. Adams made it sound like he was a unknown pedestrian off the street that got drafted out of surprise but it’s not true lol.
I’m stunned this guy still doesn’t have a ring. He’s the perfect locker room guy
I love that he’s eating while doing a podcast lol
I remember being pissed about picking him then he became one of my favorite thunder players ever. I learned not to criticize our decisions anymore lol
Going to have to listen to this episode, love Steve-o easily one of my am favorite players to interact with. He is a super genuine guy, has a great sense of humor, and is just a great human being. I would love to see him come back to the Thunder, he is a great vet that young guys in this league need to learn from. If Ja was closer to Adams he likely wouldn’t be getting into such dumb shit.
