The Nets are poised for a very interesting season and are at something of a crossroads with their current roster. Sean Marks has some real, franchise-level decisions to make along the way. The Locked on Nets guys break down three of the moves the Nets must make this season and they revolve around veterans like Spencer Dinwiddie, Royce O’Neale, and Dorian Finney-Smith.
In talking about these three, they look at the rest of the roster trying to suss out exactly what the plan should be for the team now and moving forward. It could include some uncomfortable transactions which could leave the team worse in the short term.

Quite honestly the moves Marks can make is one letting this team's new core develop together and set a solid foundation for the future…
In the case of some of their vets on expiring contracts they could eventually flip for more first round draft picks and be set up well to make a big move in the future…
A third possible move is Tyler Herro coming to Brooklyn in a possible blockbuster three team trade….
Regardless it's important to let this team grow and develop together as a unit and bring competitive basketball back to Brooklyn…..
As much as I like DFS and Royce, given where the Nets are at, it’s best to move them. They have A LOT. of players as you said that they have to find out exactly what they have. They need to decide what they are going to do with Cam Thomas. Keeping and developing Nic Claxton should be a priority. If we trade Claxton, we will regret it.
Seth was dealing with the ankle issue and sorta sucked in the playoffs. I'd bet he didn't have a market
I hope the Trail Blazers wait until December before making a move on Dame's trade demand. By that time, he would have probably changed his mind about leaving Portland. Should that happen, the Nets would have to move on from the acquiring Tyler Herro noise . For the sake of continuity, that would be good. If no other moves are made until we focus on developing and building onto what we have instead of gambling on players with expensive long term contracts that we never intended on pursuing before this Dame trade thing came about, the Nets would be better off.
Marks doesn't determine minutes… he did his part, you guys gotta talk more about the coach.
Start Cam Thomas!
That way all these vets look like better trade targets when they are more efficient off the bench.
This season is a salary cap reset so we can avoid the repeater tax.. not being in that gives us a significant competitive advantage
I like having DFS for his defense, he’s our 3rd/4th best defender and has a good contract. Royce is probably the most expendable even though he’s a great 3&D wing. All of this defense is going to be a great surrounding cast around Cam Thomas and Lonnie
Supposedly the 2025 draft is the much strong draft anyway.
Trading away royce or dfs makes zero sense for scenarios like players getting hurt, resting guys on back to backs and players getting in foul trouble
Hey LON, this week's podcasts offer a realistic perspective on the Brooklyn Nets, not a pessimistic one. The discussions shed light on strategic aspects and the varied approaches Sean Marks is pursuing. For better or for worse. For instance, holding onto DFS and Oneal might lessen their value over time and impede the progress of players aged 21-24. The Dinwiddie situation indicates he excels as a role player on a contender, unlike the Nets, where his ball dominance might hinder younger talents. Clax's expiring contract has trade potential due to his age and defensive prowess, but exploring alternatives before committing to a 20-25m deal, particularly with Simmons at 40m, seems wise. Despite my reservations about Simmons, teaming him with Cam Thomas could harness their unique strengths and mitigate their weaknesses. While Marks' caution is reasonable, excessive hesitancy might not favor the Nets and could result in missed opportunities. I recognize that Sean Marks must tread carefully after the double James Harden trade incident. However, his reluctance to act could lead to a holding pattern, where more expiring contracts depart without meaningful returns, similar to Seth Curry's situation last season.
