[NY Times] Giannis Antetokounmpo on his future in Milwaukee: “This is my team, and it’s going to forever be my team … But we have to win another one. Winning a championship comes first. I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship.”

> “There will never be hard feelings with the Milwaukee Bucks,” he said. “I believe that we’ve had 10 unbelievable years, and there’s no doubt I gave everything for the city of Milwaukee. Everything. Every single night, even when I’m hurt. I am a Milwaukee Buck. I bleed green. I know this.

> “This is my team, and it’s going to forever be my team. I don’t forget people that were there for me and allowed me to be great and to showcase who I am to the world and gave me the platform. But we have to win another one.”

> He is halfway to his goal of playing 20 N.B.A. seasons, and he said he would like to spend them with one team, the way Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan did.

> “But at the end of the day, being a winner, it’s over that goal,” he said. “Winning a championship comes first. I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship.”

> He didn’t mention any motivation for winning another championship outside of his competitive fire. But the cultural relevance that comes with winning can also elevate his growing off-court profile.

  1. 2013-2033 with 3 titles is goat status and also a tier 2 dynasty

Giannis, don’t you know that every year you don’t win is just a step to success?

they need a Sam Presti type GM to sell Jrue, Khris and Brook when their value is still high. Between getting old and injuries the Bucks could be in a bad spot in a couple years imo

  5. kokukojuto33

So where is he gonna go once Jrue and Brook fall off due to age? Thats gonna happen in 2-3 years tops

  6. ShoudveStayedHome

His team lost G5 to the Heat because he wanted to do a Shaq shooting free throws cosplay

  7. Present-Trainer2963

You’re gonna need to make jumpers and hit your free throws then.

Honestly, what if the Bucks find a way to flip Jrue + assets to the Blazers for Dame 👀

  9. abstract_contact

Tryna learn his messaging from Dame’s mistakes

The media will run with these quotes if the Bucks get off to a slower start and we’re gonna hear Giannis leaving Milwaukee rumors again and trade demand rumors.

He wants to win, he realizes the clock is ticking, and he wants to ensure the front office in Milwaukee is on the same page as he. It’s shrewd. He knows doing an interview with quotes like these to the Times is gonna capture attention and keep Horst and Co. on their toes.

Unless Giannis develops a jump shot I don’t see him playing for 20 years but he definitely means something to the Bucks on the level of Kobe and Duncan.

“I don’t want to end up like Aaron Rodgers”

I don’t think he wants to wait 20 months let alone 20 years and even depending on how this season ends for them we’ll see.

Giannis man you should’ve joined the warriors in 2020… that spacing with your interior game would’ve complemented you so much. You can still join the warriors

Its sad that players know that fans won’t respect them for their actual body of work. Its all just relegated to 1 series at the end of the year. These guys just end up in big markets and try to win rings there because they know better talent is more willing to go to bigger markets than smaller markets.
