Here is my "hot take" for the next season… I think Exum will be the dark horse for this Mavs team. Maybe not at the start of the season, but come Playoff time I think he will be the primary guard off the bench.
As a european I also watch the Euroleague. And over here he had a resurgance. He was finally healthy (something he couldnt do to start his career), also showed that he can shoot (over 40% from 3 over the last 2 seasons) and that he can still use his athleticism to attack the basket and make the right play. Not to mention he allways was a plus defender and has the physical tools (6'5, 210 lbs, 6'9 wingspan) to defend guards and smaller wings. Just watch the Australian National team right now. He played under one of, if not the, most brilliant offensive coaches ever last season. Yes, that includes the NBA… and he was a very important guy on one of the best teams in Europe. If Obradovic trusts you, you have a high BB IQ and you are very coachable.
I think Exum will be our version of 2022 Payton II for the Warriors. A bit less defense, but a better scorer/playmaker on offense. Come playoff time he will be the 1st guard off the bench, even in front of Curra/Hardy.
For those saying "tHe mAvS dIdN't eVeN mAkE tHe pLaY-iN," just remind them LeBron and the Lakers didn't make the play-in 2 seasons ago. Last year, they were in the WCF with a few key additions.
So if the Lakers can do it, why can't the Mavs? They're just being haters at that point.
