[The Athletic] Expect Hawks GM Landry Fields to have to offload at least one more big-ticket player over the next year-plus unless success this season makes ownership more willing to pay the tax.

> Unfortunately, shipping out John Collins was not nearly enough to get the Hawks out of their salary predicament beyond this season even with Dejounte Murray signing a reasonable extension that kicks in for the 2024-25 campaign. They are over the cap and roughly $20 million below the tax with nothing for pending restricted free agents Onyeka Okongwu and Saddiq Bey, so expect Hawks GM Landry Fields to have to offload at least one more big-ticket player over the next year-plus unless success this season makes ownership more willing to pay the tax.

It makes zero basketball sense to not be in the 1st tax in 2025 BTW, I am usually not here to shit on Ressler but if he ducks the next next year I am going to be pissed off

Remember the glass is half empty negativity thing the way media cover Trae and Hawks? This is a good example

This whole thing could been written in reverse…….

The Hawks are likely to go over cap unless disappointing season.

Instead it’s written with negativity, pessimistic that Hawks will have a good season a bad season is more likely which owners try to stay under the tax.

“Hawks likely to offload at least one more big-ticket player over the next year-plus unless success. “

  4. I don’t know why people in here think we need to overpay our players for the level of output we’re getting. There is absolutely no reason to go into the tax for a team that is barely scraping the playoff surface.

If I had to guess, the obvious offload of a contract would be DeAndre Hunter’s. Capela is bargain for his output (barring a regression in his production) – same goes for Bogi.
