An NBA executive says teams weren’t lining up for Damian Lillard even before his agent requested only Miami. -“There’s not that many teams that are going to give you a bunch of players and picks for a 33-year-old who can’t stay healthy and has a giant contract sitting there.”

“There’s not that many teams that are going to give you a bunch of players and picks for a 33-year-old who can’t stay healthy and has a giant contract sitting there…it was not anything Dame said or (agent) Aaron Goodwin said that shut down the market. That stuff didn’t help. But there weren’t teams lined up for him even before that.”

Yet another foolish team who decided to hold on for a couple of more seasons of mediocrity instead of doing what they should’ve done when they could’ve

this is so dumb lmao the dude just had his best year ever

can’t stay healthy? his biggest problem was playing for years through the abdominal injury

he’s been like 70ish games every year except 2021-22

this is all just going to look silly when he gets traded wherever, and for the next 2-4 years is still like 25-30 a night on like 60% ts

    >a 33-year-old who can’t stay healthy

Lillard has one surgery for an injury he played through for one season and suddenly he’s extremely fragile? Outside of that he’s been fairly healthy most of his career.

    Thank you

A 33 year old with 200+mil still left in his contract isn’t going to attract the crazy packages some people were/are hoping for.

2 FRPs, a rotation player, a young player should be enough 🤷‍♂️

But r/nba users said he should receive a KD type haul?

  6. HorrorPassion9540

I’m sure a team like the Nets would have tried. He’s still one of the best players in the league and probably will be for at least 2 years.

If Cronin flipped Dame two years ago he would’ve gotten a better haul. Shouldn’t of waited this long.

Fk it stay in Portland don’t let them get anymore lotto picks

May be misremembering, but the mandate of it only being Miami came within a day or so of the trade request. Other teams were told almost immediately not to bother.

EDIT: yeah, same day from [Shams](https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1675176002207510528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1675176002207510528%7Ctwgr%5E99d8cac4d1448a1b5caf426bf186c6ff6684adf0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2Fnba%2Fcomments%2F14nyilb%2Fhaynes_breaking_news_portland_trail_blazers%2F) about 20 minutes apart from general trade request announcement to Miami mandate.

May have been a better fake source if it didn’t include the can’t stay healthy lie

Honestly as a Heat fan I’m sitting pretty no matter what happens. Getting Dame would easily make us a top 2 team in the East, probably top 5 in the league, but we made the Finals last season without him and the East is honestly getting weaker. The Celtics improved (on paper) but the Bucks are only getting older, the Sixers are a mess and the Cavs/Knicks haven’t improved enough to worry me in the playoffs. We’ll still need to fill the potent guard spot but I’m happy with the internal improvements our team has shown this offseason (which is slightly ironic considering me and many other Heat fans have been pulling our hair out over not making big move the previous two offseasons)

As for Cronin, he’s honestly on the back foot here imo. He either trades Dame to the Heat for the “terrible package” we potentially have in place, or he doesn’t, the Blazers run it back, probably suck again but not enough to get another top pick with their franchise GOAT that has made it clear he doesn’t want to be there anymore, and put Dame on the market again age 34 earning 60 million those next two seasons.

I’m sure this won’t feed the arrogance and delusion of Heat fans. Not at all.

  13. What I’ve been saying the packages they want for the few teams that would see value in trading for Dame aren’t there. There been some surprises these last couple years so maybe I’m incorrect, and a team like the Nets gives up a haul.

  14. calvintheidiot

Gonna be awkward when Dame still in Portland next year

  15. RVAIsTheGreatest

As said by u/foye2smith the market Dame could have potentially had was never allowed to develop to begin with. We can’t really know what his market is because not only has there been no bidding war for his services, but the Blazers do not seem very committed to trading him themselves.

  16. SwiggySiggyDoc

Teams would put up with the health concerns if his contract wasnt what it is

  17. Portland about to run Dame, Scoot, Simons and Shaedon lineup 😂.

Bruh if Dame doesn’t get traded, Simons should demand a trade. This is literal GM terrorism. Like buying 3 different brands of soap for no reason.

  18. CabbageStockExchange

Can’t stay healthy? I thought Dame has been one of the more durable stars in the NBA?

  19. Punjabiveer30

That executive’s name rhymes with Mat Miley

  20. FriendlyFireHaHa

I swear sometimes people don’t even watch Dame play and just see his age. He literally had one of his most efficient seasons of his career, and we still write him off.

  21. msizzle344

Damn that’s crazy, I thought more teams would line up to get a 33 yr old PG with 200mil left in his contract. I’ve been told by Blazers fans all summer that he’s worth everything, top 75 player, best PG ever omg.

Going to end up with fucking scraps at the deadline from the lakers because, to the shock of people without brain cells, the teams with the most resources aren’t spending them on a 33yr old PG owed 200mil.

People are high as hell thinking he’s worth all the Miami assets. “wHaT mIaMi AsSeTs” none I guess, the Herro revenge arc starts this season. Already too valuable to move in a deal that no else is bidding in.

  22. Bababooey98

“Can’t stay healthy”. lol. Dame is one of the healthiest stars in the nba. The only time he’s missed significant time was because of that abdominal issue. Last year if the Blazers hadn’t shut him down he would have played close to 70 games. Do these executives even watch basketball or are they trying to intentionally mislead people? I’m guessing its the latter. You would think he was talking about Kawhi Leonard not Lillard.

  23. Background_Action_92

I can’t even the digest the absolute carny show they’re running in Portland. Dame’s situation lines up perfectly with the Heat’s but they thought that other teams would bite the bait but failed to see that was a fruitless tactic.

Now they have a surplus amount of guards if they don’t trade Dame to miami. Cronin is doing a disastrous job but doesn’t get flak from the fans due to their emotional status
