Having Dirk, Duncan, and KG all in their primes at the same time in the league was awesome. Three superstar bigs all with different styles. It’s actually a bit similar to right now with Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid.

  2. So its shaq-TIMMMMMy-kg-LEBROOOOOOOOON-cp-steph c..-GIANNISS-JOOOOKIC and so on

    Great visualization.

Worth noting that this isn’t supposed to show who had the best season each year. DPM uses multiple years of data to estimate current true talent, so their rankings as of any specific date are taking multiple years into account.

Also worth noting that players essentially start from scratch in 1997 (when PBP data is first available), which means Jordan would be higher at the start if it incorporated pre-1997 data.

I don’t get why DPM was so fast to recognize Jokic as a top 10 player (2016), but so slow to recognize him as a top 3 player (2022) or better than Embiid. The current Jrue Holiday rating is also pretty eyebrow raising.

Chris Paul continues to be, by far, the most underrated career according to pretty much any advanced metric.

What is BPM exactly. I’m rly bad with advanced stats

  5. KindaClutcher

MJ at 5th place in 1998. Really? DPM sucks.

  6. I would not guess KG stayed that long top 3!
Pretty funny how CP3 was almost number 1 twice, first time, LeBron kept on top, then when CP3 succeeded to pass LeBron, Steph Curry came like a Ferrari and went on top just before CP3 could make it finally!

  7. StubbornKindOfFellow

I don’t know what DPM is, but it had Vlade ranked higher than Webber?

  8. NJ_Citizen

I saw Nick Collison and Nene on this, so whatever DPM means, it’s the worst measurement of all time

  9. buzzcitybonehead

Chris Paul gaining on LeBron for that #1 spot and Steph coming in out of nowhere just as he almost gets there cracked me up.

  10. BoneDollars

I clocked Timmy with 9.95 being the all-time high

  11. SqueezedTuna

Kinda fun seeing how high Manu was for a while there

  12. Draper_White_Soprano

I have no idea how accurate this is. But I do really enjoy any chart/graphic/ weird music video that shows Duncan being great for 10+ years AND Kobe barely cracking the top 5. Tim’s quiet dominance over the Mamba Mentality is a hill I will die fighting Lakers fans on forever.

  13. LeBron at or near the top for 13 years is bananas.

  14. Nuclearsunburn

Jrue Holiday for Jayson Tatum who says no?

  15. -Drink_More_Water-

Ricky Rubio snuck in there for a quick millisecond

This animation has too much motion. I think it is based on yearly data, so why is there continuous motion when the years tick along slowly? After a year ticks over, let the names move to their new locations, then give us some time to actually look at it before a few moments. Instead it immediately begins the transition to the next year.

  17. CBrofles

I don’t know what the fuck is a DPM. And there are surprise names here and there. But the top player in each years/period is as good as it gets.

  18. two4gone

I had to double check to make sure I wasn’t in the circle jerk sub

  19. Some of y’all need to understand just because a number says something, doesn’t make it true. Use your brains and think do you really think guys like Nene, Nick Collison, Lamar Odom, and Jrue Holiday deserve to be on this list above some of their contemporaries. That should tell you all you need to know about this stat.
