Are we positive the doctor wasn’t Albanian ?

In a blowout win against South Sudan, Serbia’s Boriša Simanić received a hit by South Sudan’s Nuni Omot during garbage time. He had surgery the same day but unfortunately news came out today in Serbian media that his kidney had to be removed.

My cousin got hit in a 2 hand touch football game and had to get his spleen removed

  5. You can lose your entire kidney from a contact play in basketball???

Damn that’s fucking brutal. Don’t even think I’ve seen this in MMA.

This is so tragic , the elbow he got hit with didnt even look that bad …refs also reviewed and deemed no foul.

Hope his career is not over .

  7. The fact that there were no surgeons in hospital, plus, it seems that they made a mistake during procedure and that’s why he lost the kidney. Serbian surgeon offered to do surgery himself but they declined. Also, they didn’t have A- blood type. Unbelivable. You are organising world cup and you don’t have enough blood and surgeons who are on duty…

Jesus Christ! I hope he has a quick recovery.

Horrifying news. Hope there are no long term complications. Basketball is absolutely a contact sport and one of the most physical sports around.

Relating to u/NeiRa7 relayed here, not the first time there has been concern surrounding medical infrastructure at a global sporting event and it is something that must be considered more strongly in the future.

This is nightmare fuel. Can’t imagine how horrible things had to have aligned for this to happen.

He’s about to be a super supporter for the north

I imagine, at least team US, won’t be traveling anywhere without a fully staffed emergency unit after this. I can’t imagine NBA teams allowing their multibillion dollar players to be exposed to such a risk, again.

I mean, after I saw the security/fans punching players in the 2019 aus phillipines brawl I thought they were gonna be done with organising….

..then they are allowed to be a host and this kinda shit happens.

that elbow reminds me of a rogue skill in WOW

  15. SportyNewsBear

Yeah, but why was his kidney in his elbow in the first place?

  16. … aaaaaaaaaand no international sporting events for the Philippines unless quality health services are personally verified. Sheesh, talk about an impression.

  17. chewbaka888

Yes, I think the Philippines should have a team of surgeons on call for the games especially for these kinds of injury, like broken kidneys, which happens almost every night in basketball games.

  18. Philippine healthcare is adequate for basic health needs and outpatient care. Inpatient care you leave to top-flight private and public hospitals; go to lesser hospitals and you will see that the former are primarily extortionate, the latter generally overfull with the poor, and both suffer from lack of up-to-date equipment and low staffing (due to abysmally low pay, which is why we’ve exported so much of our labor since the 1980s — salaries in general have not caught up to cost of living, and the medical profession is low-paying relative to the rest of the labor sector, even more so that cost of living as of late has been skyrocketing).

Honestly, having the Philippines as a host for this World Cup was crazy. Third world country, substandard medical care, and a history of mismanaging events. The 2019 Australia-Philippines basketball brawl was one example, zero control of the environment or spectators. FIBA are as incompetent as FIFA are corrupt.
