You know, I think Paolo made the right call.
He’ll get plenty of time as the 1a option in Orlando, so it’s good for him to get experience playing as the third/fourth option on a better team, and also be really tasked with focusing on rebounding, defense, and off-ball offense. This will only help him play next to Franz, who will hopefully only continue growing into a 1b option himself.

A lot of people are comparing this to the Lithuania game, but Italy is a totally different type of opposition.
Italy are a very small sqaud and are comprised of almost all shooters. The problem is well… they have been ice cold the entire tournament with the exception of the Serbia game.

Everyone here (including Italy players and coach) agrees: we weren’t playing against “The US”, we were playing against “The US who just lost to Lithuania and were playing at their best”, not much you can do against that specific team. Even if we didn’t play one of the worst games of our tournament, there was no real chance there.

Italy on talent was probably the worst of the 8 teams remaining in the event but they were still playing well and confident. The matchup was in the Americans favor and they did what they were supposed to do. They are the favorites to win it all, but the games will be tougher going forward. They can probably beat Latvia in a similar way just with the matchups and how it breaks down, but it won’t be that way with Germany.
