The Raptors May Have Found The PERFECT Backup Point Guard

The Toronto Raptors have been in a long search for a backup point guard and they may have found their lifeline in Cam Payne. Since Kyle Lowry left the team in the 2021 offseason, Fred VanVleet has really been the only reliable option for the Raptors at the top of the floor and things have not changed after his departure as it is only Dennis Schroder who can be reliably used on a game to game basis for Darko Rajakovic’s squad.

However, an opportunity presents itself with Cam Payne as the former Phoenix Sun and technically Toronto Raptor has been waived by the San Antonio Spurs and is now a free agent. Can Masai Ujiri pull off the move to bring him in to back up the German World Cup Champion and MVP at PG.

jacob Gramegna breaks down what needs to happen for the deal to go down and if the Raptors actually have a chance to sign the player.

  1. No we don’t need him. Give Dowtin those minutes. He proved he can do it on both ends. He’s not a shot chucker, he can run a team and do it the right away. Payne would be good, but there’s no need

  2. Of Phoenix waived hom why do we want him. Malaki fell flat do to the lack of development form the former coaching staff.

  3. Man you are pretty good with the Raps content and consistency, but you're making these shock value headlines and videos as if you have an agenda. There's absolutely no need for Cam Payne, and if you have been lamenting at the fact that we don't have enough shooters, why on earth do you want Cam Payne as a backup PG ??? If you don't believe in PG Scottie, cool we get it, but come on brother, Cam Payne???

  4. Malachi Flynn is going to break out this season under Darko…believe it or not!!! Raptors projected pre training camp depth chart:

    CP: Poeltl/Achiuwa/Koloko

    PF: Siakam/Boucher/Young

SF: Barnes/**Porter Jr/McDaniels/Temple (**Porter Jr on load management no B2B with McDaniels in rotation when Porter Jr out)

    SG: Anunoby/Trent Jr/Dick

    PG: Schroder/Flynn/*Dowtin Jr (*Non Guaranteed)

Two Way Contracts: PG Markquis Nowell, SF Ron Harper Jr, SG Javon Freeman-Liberty

Exhibition 10 905: PF Mouhamadou Gueye, PF Kevin Obanor
