Okay r/NBA, what’s your retort?

Semantics. “World champions” is just a quicker way of saying “best team in the entire world”
marsexpresshydra
I wonder if he agrees that the Bucks losing in the first round means the season was a failure
icouldbesurfing
OK, let the NBA champs compete against any world team and see what happens. They the world champs, just saving the rest of us the time.

Lyles was just whining that sprinters don’t get enough attention, he admitted it himself (from this very article):
> “I do think that the point was lost,” he said. “At the end of the day, it was talking about how I see what we do to our national championships—I just want the same thing for our world champions. And we’re a sport where we’re bringing in the most medals every year—and it’s like nobody even knows because they don’t pay attention.”
He seems to think it’s because track and field isn’t domestic that it doesn’t get attention, when in reality it’s because no one in their right minds would watch track on TV more than once a year.

This may be my least favorite off-season storyline of all time. It just doesn’t end and is such a lame controversy.
DifferentShallot2
It would be cool to see a tournament of euro club, nba and g-league teams playing against each other
ViCarly
Just weeks now of this story about nothing
WobbleKun
i agree. you can’t just claim yourself the champ before competing even if you’re stacked. heatles lost, gsw kd lost. all it takes is a fluke injury or a generational choke and maybe something crazy happens. anything can happen in bo1 single elim tourny.

Create a Club World Cup! I don’t care if it will be a blood bath for NBA teams vs other league.
I think it’s a silly argument because the world’s best are here. Yeah, the cities they play in are American and Canadian but it’s the greatest talent from all over the world.

The “N” stand for national.
Your honor , I rest my case.
cajun_vegeta
Instead of the shitty in-season tourney they’re doing they needed to have included the best international clubs for a knockout comp with teams that don’t make the playoffs.
Tsunami-Papi_
so do I

Noah was right, but he said it with big hater energy. I always took “world champ” as a simple thing to drum up hype of it all. Regardless of the technicality it doesn’t minimize anything NBA players accomplish. Silver will prob remove it, but NBA champs is still the highest achievement imo
Valuable_End_515
Will this ever end? An American started it smh but non-Americans have continued to perpetuate it for over a month now. It spilled over into FIBA and is still going. Insecurity is loud.
We have been calling the finals winners NBA champions. Nobody even really says world champions. But that team is considered the best in the world. The horse is already dead, can we stop beating it.
Rationalknicksfan
Nothing said world champion on it lyles made that shit up to make his point
Xc0liber
I find this hilarious. Noah is right but everyone is salty about it until it becomes news lol.
Haunting-Bag-6686
Noah Lyles’ career legacy, at the absolute best, will be “not as good as Usain Bolt”. Why did this story ever pick up and traction and why does anyone give a fuck what this “will inevitably get caught doping” track chud thinks about the NBA?
LyonsKing12
We’re all world champions because there’s no failure.

We gone act like Noah Lyles didn’t say this because he wanted more money?

Tbh I really don’t understand the massive debate over such a trivial matter.
The NBA is an *American* basketball league, and there are a lot of other leagues in other countries. Does that mean that the NBA isn’t the best of these leagues? No. But you can’t call yourself world champions if you’re not playing against all the other countries. The team that wins the title is the *NBA* champion.
