The power balance in international basketball has shifted – nobody is afraid of Team USA anymore. They have lost 6 times in the last 5 years after going undefeated from 2008 to 2019. What’s the main reason behind this sudden change? In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas analyzes how NBA & FIBA are growing apart in terms of play style for the last 10 years as this has greatly limited USA’s ability to dominate in the recent World Cup.

Wait for the Olympics brah
It's a combination of things. The US does not send it's best players. While the world has caught up (a world team might even be favored over a US team), the US is not sending their best. The world teams have been playing together for years while the US teams get together for a short period. As said, the game is different. FIBA line being shorter and the subtle rule changes and officiating are big too.
Finally, I'd add that even though US is not sending their best the fact that every big man now wants to and plays like KD is also a problem in FIBA. We just don't have any real centers. NBA teams have downsized and that's why Walker Kessler is a laughable option on paper, but then you think…who is better for the role?
Lithuania deserves an honorary medal for exposing team USA lol. Montenegro just didn't have enough depth that's why they fell short against USA
It's def not the nuggets.
And with all that you pointed that team USA did wrong, they lost by 2 🤦‍♂️to Germany (whose leading players are NBA players). Yay Eurobasket is so great
Basically, this is what Gregg Popovich has been doing throughout his coaching career in the NBA, which is under appreciated and that is why, probably, he prefers international players.
This team lost because of lack of play together and not all the bogus you wasted your time with. The players that lead the teams that medaled are all NBA players. Same reason why Lebron and them lost in the Olympics before because the team is assembled McDonald’s style. Style of play is secondary to talent level and chemistry. But hey if you tell it, US basketball players are dumb and European players are so intelligent 👍.
Bruh Usa dont give a f about fiba This is like euro season The world not messing with usa Theres no 5 stars theres 1 to a team overseas This guy a D headđź“
Fantastic video, hit the nail on the head and a lot of what you said is the stuff I've been trying to say since Team Canada lost to Serbia. That was an eye opening experience. I mostly watch NBA, but a lot of what pisses me off about NBA, seems not to be a problem in Europe. My only problem with watching Euroleague is being able to find a team that I can relate to. But Serbia made me realize that the fundamentals are lost over here.
You missed biggest point which is none of the best, good, or even fair players in the nba did not play in this USA team. The team players were not even at the g lig level. I still think top 5 teams from each nba division can easily bit germany. Canada, etc.

Americans underestimate the talent pool of other countries. They believe anyone who do not make it to NBA, including American players playing in Europe, are shit. Dont forget that while Team USA with NBA stars finished 7th in 2002 and 2018 championship, a Team USA with European experience and NCAA student athletes won a bronze in 1998. NCAA preaches team oriented plays. Europe is basically the second chance for NBA rejects coming out of NCAA, and those Americans who play in Europe are no scrubs too.
Alright man, lets talk after the Olympics.
everyone can shoot now, it's as simple as that
Team USA just dont have two way player anymore the last american two way players that play internationaly was kobe, kawhi, paul george,KD and prime lebron, US players mentality now is to outscore their opponent and massively relying on switch defence to bail their soft defense, it wont work in FIBA rules because you have 10 min per quarter every possesion is valuable you cant wait for your players to turn hot in scoring thats why team play is the 1st option in FIBA
There's nothing to be afraid. FIBA basketball is top notch than NBA. You can be physical, you can taunt, no flooping call, no soft foul, A Real basketball for real man to be called WORLD CHAMPION.
As an American, and someone who loves basketball, it’s actually good to see real competition. It’s cool to see national teams other than the US filled with a stack roster of NBA players. I also am excited to see other teams win because it ignites excitement in other countries. Right now somewhere there are little German kids looking up to their national team and deciding to focus on basketball instead of football because the saw them win. Also, I like seeing team USA win of course, but where is the fun running up the score on a team of nobodies? Beating a team with jokic, Giannis, or Luka on it is much more satisfying.
I agree that US would likely to win the olympics next year because of the superstar veterans. But what about next olympics where those veteran superstars are all old? No one can save them now if they don't change
you tripping for clicks. the best usa team is killing any team in Canada or Germany. their play alone will change they way other countires have to guard them. every country put together their best team. except the USA
Curious to know if American players whom played long term in Toronto for the raptors.. like Demar Derozen, Kyle Lowry etc. applied for duel citizenship (USA/CAN).. because If they don’t make the USA roster, they can say F’it I’ll play for Canada then..
Sooo… a coaching issue?
We don't send our best team for the world cup. Is it going to be easy to win the Olympic Gold Medal in 2024 like it's 1992? No. But if LeBron, Durant, Curry, and the best players play, they'll probably win every game they play in the Olympics next summer.

NBA style of play focuses on athleticism. World focuses on fundamentals.
NBA all star game should focus on the team USA vs team World concept more instead of treating it as a side piece. Treat it like it's a international competition scrimmage where you send the best and potential team USA players to go against the best in the NBA that's not american.
Hence why the Denver Nuggets won the NBA Championship. Their style is somewhat comparable to FIBA basketball. They focused on teamplay, utilization of the post, and excellent off ball movements.
