The 2006 raptors stunk. So the broadcast crew including the legendary Chuck Swirsky had to really scrape the barrel to get through games. Chuck absolutely loved the Raptors streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer, which led the league. He remarked on it every game.
One night, Mavs are blowing out the raptors in Dallas. The broadcast team is depressed. The team is depressed. Fans are depressed. But – On the final play with a second on the clock, journeyman Darrick Martin unexpectedly hoists a 3-pointer.
It goes down, the raptors still lose by like 20, but Chuck absolutely loses his shit about keeping the streak alive. It’s like they won the title and would be hoisting a banner. Onions baby onions, the whole thing.
Absolutely epic moment baked into the memory of long-time raptors fans.
