I am typically pro player; they should be able to use Free Agency and trade requests to exert a level of control to their careers as needed. But like everything in life, there are limits.
Dame should be able to request a trade, and let his agent and the team negotiate with 5-7 teams to get as much return as possible to make the trade as win-win as possible.
But the idea that he can demand a trade to 1 team, or even 2 or 3 severely limits Portland to operate in its best interest. At the end of the day, he signed a contract that compels him to play for a team in the NBA, with the stipulation that he will be paid TENS of MILLIONS of dollars.
If players want full control of their playing destiny, then negotiate a trade clause that will give that level of control. What come with that is less money, which is fine but you can’t have it both ways.
