Seems like the FO is content playing out these next two years with (essentially) this squad and then re-tooling when the books free up. This lines up with the Khris/Jrue/Brook deals + the time when Giannis will make his decision. We also free up an extra first-rounder if we wait until draft night next year (or shortly thereafter I can’t remember) which will help in those efforts to rebuild the roster at that point or help tear things down next offseason if we underachieve again.
It’s not exactly sexy and depending on your thoughts on this current “core” you can certainly disagree with it, but it’s hard to see how, with where this team is currently sitting talent and contract wise, that this was anything more than a “kick the tires” call, which I’m sure every team in the league has done.
There would have to be several teams involved lol would likely be Middleton or jrue gone, maybe Bobby too.
Unless Portland is just gonna give a discount just so he doesn’t go to Miami.
But if there was any way in hell without giving up a whole lot they need to do it.
Jrue++ would be my guess. I love jrue and believe we don’t win the chip without him. We would give up defense, but gain scoring and at least for the recent years, clutch play. Danes contract would still align with Middleton somewhat.
Not that Portland is dumb, but the chatter about jrue wanting this to be his last contract scares me a bit as well.

The reality of Dame getting traded to Bucks is slim, they don’t want Jrue so it would almost have to involve a 3rd team (or more).
To play out the direct trade hypothetical tho, the most realistic scenario would be Jrue/MarJon + 2029 and one of Grayson/Pat to make the money work – MarJon would probably have to be included because Portland’s rebuilding and wants young talent (not to mention he’s from the PNW); they might want Pat because he’s a former player that their fans already like but more likely they go with Grayson if only because he’s an expiring. Yeah, Bobby could be traded in this scenario too but he’s far more of a position of need for us than Grayson/Pat and its doubtful Portland would have much interest in him as he really doesn’t fit their timeline; that said, if multiple teams get involved then the likelihood increases.
Last thing I’ll say is if we really were trading for Dame, it’s too bad Khris couldn’t be included instead of Jrue – hypothetically speaking, Jrue would be fantastic off ball next to Dame, such a killer guard combo w/Jrue providing help on defense to cover some of Dame’s deficiencies. But alas, not to be…
