[Neubeck] The Portland Trail Blazers have basically been telling the Miami Heat to “eat sh*t.”

Lol I understand why you would feel this way!

Here’s what I was actually communicating:

— People in Portland and Philly both agree on the fact that they’ve discussed Dame at multiple points this summer

— In Portland, as of this week, they are leaking that the Sixers are more involved than the team is letting on.

— The Sixers continue to forcefully deny they’ve had serious discussions. This part is subtext I am inferring and not reporting: any “real” offer for Dame likely requires Maxey, so they have all the incentive to downplay their involvement and keep him/Rich Paul happy after telling him they’re not extending him this summer

— As others have said (including Woj in the middle of us recording the pod yesterday), the Blazers have basically been telling Miami to eat shit

If you’re asking me what / believe, I think the Sixers would rather simply keep Harden/Maxey than trade both in a Dame deal, so I find it pretty unlikely they’re going to trade for him. But this stuff out of Portland has been floating around this week, so just sharing that with you all!

    My takeaway:

    Harden to Bucks.

    Maxey to Nuggets.

    Lillard to 76ers.

Jokic and Giannis to Portland and Adam Silver ignores all salary rules because he is also tired of all the trade rumors.

Ironically for Dame (and the Heat for that matter), the worst possible move for Dame was to go so immediate and public with his Miami-only request.

I can’t speak for Cronin’s personality, but you don’t think Bert Kolde and Jody Allen got to where they are without a little edge and vindictiveness, do you? If I feel it a bit as a fan of the team who may consider Dame my all-time favorite Blazer, you know the Blazers’ administration is feeling it more so.

Regardless of what the Miami package is/was and how it compares to other offers (and I don’t think it is particularly strong personally), the minute Dame called out Miami as his only desired destination, was the minute Miami was going to need to drastically overpay to get him. It’s just the way (even many amicable) divorces work.

Anybody remember earlier this summer when the Blazers reached out to the Heat to make an offer for Bam? They wanted to pair him with Dame here in Portland. Didn’t the Heat front office basically laugh at the Blazers front office? Makes me think that this is a case of the Blazers returning the attitude. Fun stuff.

Could we send Dame to Philly, Harden goes to Houston, and we get some of Houston’s youngsters?

As they should. The deal they’re offering sucks and then they tried to use their media influence to shame the Blazers. I’d tell them to fuck off too
