Some won’t like this because they want to believe Pat did nothing and this agent is just covering for him. Reinforces my belief that the Blazers were being petty.

B-but it’s all Pats fault! Waaaahhh!

  3. kidclutchtrey5

Damn, PDX really did not want to trade to us. I mean fair game to them but they got a subpar haul.

Not Pat’s fault. Portland just wants to give a big fuck you to Miami. Listened to Dame on giving his chance to contend tho

While the Heat shouldn’t dodge any blame, this is what happens when you deal with bad actors who run on emotion. This whole thing will be a he said she said matter with Pat not budging the offer or Micky trying to avoid the tax for example but at the end of the day, the Blazers did everything in their power not to get him here because they never bothered to come back to the Heat after that initial “talk” in July, could’ve gotten this done way sooner if they were serious about it. Instead they settled for less and found Dame a compromise where they could wash their hands and say they sent him to a contender anyways.

I’m just posting this as of right now as neutral party in the “Fuck Pat Riley/ Not Pat Riley’s fault” debate btw. My comment history could say otherwise but Pat Riley has made questionable decisions and made me eat crow before so I’m just not gonna pick a side.

Been a Heat fan since 1988. I’ve seen Riley’s entire career here. Never have I seen so many who are just hateful towards him and want to run him out of town. The results on the court mean nothing to these people. It’s all about splashiness. An overwhelming number of opposing fan bases would kill for just a fraction of what Riley has accomplished here. I’m not turning my back on him like so many other so easily want to.

  10. They did nothing to acquire Dame and they were all out of ideas.

This sounds like something you say when you just used someone to get what you actually wanted. Feels off. Like you said Lillard wouldn’t report when people talking about the Celtics, and now he is happy on the Bucks?

No fly zone for Cronin in Miami

  13. phinsphan1313

Bullshit, no GM would turn down a better offer out of spite. If Pat made a much better offer then it would have been accepted.

  14. SaintBarthPadelClub

I find it hard to believe Portland just refused to deal with us. What would their motivation be? To “spite us”… ok but why??

  15. Tbf, had Miami been serious with negotiations from the beginning. Portland prob would’ve played the game. Feel like Miami entered the talks super arrogantly and Portland didn’t wanna trade because of it.

Very glad to see this just to shut up the idiot Heat fans who don’t appreciate that Pat Riley’s responsible for every shred of success we’ve had.

It sucks and it’s petty – on the other hand I can’t really blame Portland. They will never get free agents or keep their star players so why not snake their franchise player for asking out to send the message to other players they’ll do the same to them if they don’t play their contract out?

That second sentiment sounds bitter but I genuinely mean it, I think it’s probably good strategy for teams like Portland – they can’t afford to give players power like that.

  17. Hershieboy

Wait, I was told the Miami offer was the only good one for 3 months. I was told Poorland should be happy to take it. Seems like Cronin had more cooking than Pat Riley.

  18. goatslacker

On a scale of what Pat told Thibodeau to what Pat told Danny Ainge what do you think he told Cronin?

  19. But but but THE FRONT OFFICE!!!! THE TAXES!! DAMNIT MICKEY!!!!!

Fuck you Barry, fuck you r/heat, and fuck you Joe Cronin

  20. Dame2Miami

Gonna be funny when we eliminate the bucks in the first round again.

  21. Sexyturtletime

How did they do everything if their best offer was Herro and 2 firsts?

Not saying they should have given Portland everything, but the FO chose not to offer more and now Dame is in Milwaukee.

  22. Someone tell /r/nba that it was, in fact, out of spite

  23. Candid_Sand_398

I saw the actual package they offered and am thankful it didn’t go through. Losing 4 players PLUS 3 1st round draft picks – no thanks.

Portland decided this was about sticking it to Miami, not making their future better.

This isn’t a situation where Pat low balled them. Report even said they would throw in Caleb if they had to.

No player is worth half a team.

    We move.

  24. USCTrojans780

This is why Cronin is a lame duck GM. Instead of doing the smarter thing and get the best deal feasible, he took a subpar deal, saddled ownership with Ayton’s contract, and didn’t get a marquee prospect or two.

Their only hope is someone pays a good price for Jrue Holiday now.

  25. Ih8reddit2002

I really believe that this was done because of the whiteside trade. I know it’s conspiratorial, but it really feels like Portland just didn’t want to “get fleeced” by the Heat again.

Who knows. It sucks, but you never know how these things will work out. The Bucks will need to figure out how to play now that they changed their coach and a significant portion of their team. My money is on the Heat to find a way and the Bucks to come up short.

Dame would have been fun to have on the roster, but not at the expense of the future. It’s funny how people are claiming that Portland can swap Holiday and Ayton for more picks.

    We will see.

I hope the nephews in here that are constantly attacking the FO see this
