Aaron Goodwin, agent of Damian Lillard, told the Bucks and Nets to not let the Blazers know that Dame was interested in playing for them, in case it impacted negotiations with the Heat.

I’m not sure how transparent you’re supposed to be with each other during NBA negotiations, but seems like some information was withheld from some parties here. The Blazers weren’t supposed to know about the Bucks interest until…? What? The Heat backed out? The Heat offered their best package? And did the Heat ever know about the other two teams interested in time to offer up more? Weird.

What incentive would the Bucks and Nets have to not have a “leak” in these circumstances?

  2. The_Sign_of_Zeta

That’s really weird. Is it Dame only wanted to go to the Heat if they didn’t give up too many assets? Or did he not want Riley know he was ducking out on him?

  3. That’s like asking a girl out, but telling her not to post any pics because you don’t want the girl you *really* want to find out

  4. bauboish

This is weird. If Miami didn’t know that Dame was opening up his selections, wouldn’t they keep lowballing Blazers? If Dame wants to go to Miami then he should be letting Miami know that they need to stop sitting on their ass or he will just go elsewhere.

If this is true then Dame was probably pissed Miami wasn’t making good faith offers to Portland and no longer cared to be there.

  5. NotManyBuses

That seems bizarre, because I don’t see what the downside of Miami finding out is – they’d increase their offer or try to find a third team, right?

How is that a bad thing?

  6. Ngl if i’m a player what i’m getting out of this is that Goodwin is a great agent

  7. So Dame was gaslighting the Heat and actually wanted to go to Milwaukee?

  8. Strong_Confection628

Goodwin really thinks he’s Rich Paul despite having four clients in the league. It’s pretty crazy how in this era of player empowerment, he totally mangled this trade saga and it got to this point.

  9. Due_Connection179

Bro, this dude is trash. Sounds like he wanted to live in Miami more than Dame did.

  10. blacksoxing

As this is likely coming from the agent himself, I feel Aaron Goodwin is trying to make himself look like this mastermind of an agent who broke through the barriers….when it was his client who put himself in the corner.

This makes zero sense unless you use mental gymnastics to make it make sense. If Dame wanted to go to the Heat, and the Heat were offering shit offers, the only way this makes sense is if Dame was hoping the Blazers would take such shit offers and save some meat on the bone for the Heat to be able to still have a fully functional squad.

I guess the implication is for the Bucks to have went “OH, HEY, I KNOW YOU WANT TO MOVE DAME, SO HOW ABOUT WE OFFER **THIS** PACKAGE YOUR WAY” and the Blazers to go “….how about the Bucks?” and Dame magically went “OH, OK, YOU WIN. I’LL GO!”

    Which feels scripted as fuck.

No way the Blazers didn’t know of this secret option(s) and when the Heat ran cold quickly got the pieces in place to make this trade and GTFO the rollercoaster of dumb shit

  11. iabeytorm

But if the problem was pat Riley not getting off his ass because he thought he had no competition then wouldn’t this be fucking dame over?

  12. doflamingo34

wow this dude need to take lessons from Rich Paul

  13. nowhathappenedwas

The actual clip doesn’t say anything about impacting negotiations with the Heat. Spears says Goodwin wanted them to keep quiet because it would hurt the Nets/Bucks negotiating leverage with the Blazers.

In the clip he says Goodwin told the Nets and Bucks “to keep it on the low, don’t say anything to the Blazers about him definitely being interested there because he felt it could work against them.”

Staying quiet would allow the Bucks to say “we don’t feel comfortable offering more because we don’t even know if Dame will want to play here.”

  14. BodybuilderLivid

Goodwin is a hack if I was dame he would have to go.

  15. DevJames25

This confirms my suspicion that Dame got offended by Miami dragging it’s feet and trying to low-ball Portland. Pat Riley really did fumble here

  16. Critical-Adhole

Why should Dame’s camp have to reveal everything to the Blazers? That makes zero sense.

  17. RVAIsTheGreatest

I was very curious to know exactly what communication Dame’s camp was having with the Blazers! This is very interesting info to me.

I think highlights this entire time that Dame really was centrally focused on Miami and wanted and preferred Miami. He wanted Miami. Goodwin likely knew the Blazers would just totally cut Miami out of the picture if they realized non-Miami teams were interested. But if they weren’t having communication, Goodwin may not himself have known the Blazers were *already* in contact with the Bucks.

It seems like things got serious fast but the Bucks had reached out to Portland to register interest during the summer, so it’s not as if the Blazers didn’t know the Bucks were looking to make a move for Dame.

It really just reflects that Miami-Portland-Dame were not on the same page here. Specifically Portland-Dame and Portland-Miami. There was no communication. They were trying to circumvent that and make opposite deals and merge them to create a mega deal that saw Dame head to Miami. It was never realistic. How can you do a deal with a team you’re in no contact with?

  18. Goofew1973

Lillard’s agent said not to tell Blazers he wanted to play for Bucks or Nets cuz it might mess up Heat talks. Weird move, but hey, NBA negotiations are a whole different ball game. Wonder if the Heat knew about other teams interested in Dame before they made their offer? Hmm…

  19. paddiction

Now it makes sense why Goodwin started glazing Pat Riley after the trade. He went behind Pat’s back

  20. PalletTownsDealer

Dame and his agent came out looking weird from all this. Idk. Just weird.

  21. eltaquitoloco69

the agent is on full damage control

im guessing lillard is pissed at him for not getting him to miami.

  22. HowSoonIsMeow-

Seems like Dame went rogue on announcing Miami or bust.

  23. thegodfaubel

Seems to ke like Dame ultimately got what he wanted. He either wanted to go to Miami and live comfortably playing for a great coach. Brooklyn where he’d be in NYC and could lead to other players signing there in the coming year (or other subsequent trades). Or Milwaukee and get to play with Giannis who has openly said he’d want to play with

  24. Thunderhorse74

This transaction is going to continue to be a gold mine of offseason drama for a while yet…

  25. This dude Goodwin is a cunning piece of shit lol

  26. ponder_grace

Dame: I wanna play in Miami.

Goodwin: best I can do is a town in Wisconsin that no one can spell.

  27. Mygaffer

How transparent you are “supposed to be?”

Just enough to not break the rules.

  28. side chick becomes the main chick. a love story for the ages.

  29. Give_me_soup

Can an agent be the equivalent of disbarred? This guy is a big time douche.

  30. fartlapse

so he screwed blazers from possibly getting a better package offer. kinda messed up but dude wanted a better team, not one that gave up everything to get him.

  31. ClutchGamingGuy

    >The Blazers weren’t supposed to know about the Bucks interest until…?

Are you not understanding something? The Bucks being interested wasn’t withheld from the Blazers, Dame wanting to play for the Bucks was.

  32. ramboconn

something tells me all these “Nets and Bucks” tweets are just Goodwin trying to make himself look like a good agent and looking even worse.
