REPORT: Mavericks Turned Down Deandre Ayton Trade? Mavs Training Camp Takeaways



The Mavericks have completed day 2 of training camp during the 2023 NBA preseason as Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Mavs get ready for a new campaign. The most notable Mavs news out of training camp surrounds the Luka Doncic injury, which Luka said is not 100% but there are no on-court limitations. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd also spoke about building Kyrie and Luka’s chemistry during Mavericks training camp. Mavericks trade rumors on Deandre Ayton have resurfaced in the wake of the Damian Lillard trade as Tim MacMahon of ESPN said the Phoenix Suns would have been willing to trade Ayton to the Mavericks for Tim Hardaway Jr. and Richaun Holmes.

    Ayton is way more valuable Than both Tbh .. They should have accepted man.. Ayton as your THIRD best player who averages A DOUBLE-DOUBLE ?!😭😭

    Question for Luka ; With lebron being your favorite player, Would you ever see yourself Playing for the lakers if Dallas don’t ever win you a ship in the next 2 years

    I mean it sucks we didn't get Ayton but im glad Suns got Nurkic because I'll take my chances on Holmes over Nurkic. Holmes is questionable but better to be questionable than unplayabled because Nurkic will be waving from the bench injured

    Ayton isn’t what we need. He’s soft and not a good rim protector. He pouts when he’s not getting enough touches which he won’t with Luka and Kyrie on the roster. He’s also a decent rebounder but not great. His contract is also attrocious.

    I get that Ayton was not a long-term solution at C, but he sure would have been an upgrade over Powell/Holmes and the cost was cheap. They cannot honestly imagine that Lively is going to be a competitive starting center in his rookie year. We needed a good, defensive C on a 2 yr contract to give Lively enough time to develop but not waste the Luka/Kyrie years.

    Ayton has everything to be a beast Center. Mavs could hit the jackpot if they have a good mental coach to mold him.

    2. Is the CENTER POSITION really the issue the Mavs are addressing into?

    I have been hoping SO MUCH that we would get an opportunity like this…. and we pass? I think that was a huge mistake. And I'm pretty disappointed with the decision.
