Will Lou – “Front Office people are just rich people in expensive suits flying private jets to go see high schoolers and college kids play tournaments for half the year, and going to Europe to see players play over there… And they’re just trying to maintain their jobs for as long as possible”.

What do you make of Will’s comments about Front Offices? I get what he’s saying about not expecting them to turn shit into gold but I do also think he’s undervaluing what they do.

This may be controversial but ever since Masai got that promotion things have been sus
Yes and no. I don’t care how rich you are, constant travel is difficult when you have a family. You just want to sleep in your own bed.
I think at this point Masai has checked out. The team is not going anywhere. Giants of Africa is still a thing, as is NBA Africa. Probably has more emotional connection there.
It was a weird thing to say. Many of the players are “richer” than the FO, and being able to make important decisions by spending so much time doing research to make those decisions is arguably not something everyone can do. Just because Masai and Bobby can’t “jump high and fast” doesn’t mean they are not exceptional.
It is fair to criticize them, but calling them “unexceptional” and rich people purely jet setting around the world just sounds like a personal attack imo.
Will says it like any Joe Schmoe can become in Bobby and Masai’s position but that simply isn’t true.
All of us criticizing on the internet have no real consequences on what we say about the team but for them any decision they make might have multi million dollar consequences and the big bosses breathing down their neck as well as millions of fans complaining.
Taking a shot at “rich people” is probably the most lukewarm take out there…haven’t listened yet so can’t comment on the full context, but the raptors organization has intelligent and driven people by all accounts.
The problem I have for Will Lou, and much of our fanbase is the no vision for the long play.
People bag on rich people because it’s the easiest thing to do. It may be more interesting if you start the thought exercise with there is merit in why he’s getting paid, especially for Masai, who didn’t start off privileged.
Such a self-aware quote.
Media people like Will Lou are just guys who log on to twitter and talk some shit here, then go on another media guy’s podcast and talk some shit over there….and they’re just trying to maintain the attention for as long as possible.
Will Lou jumped the shark a long time ago for me. He’s just too reactionary and emotional. Just chill out cause it really ain’t all that.
This sub is so melodramatic lately lol swear most of the people here are under the age of 18 or something. Gotta hop off for a while until the season starts cause there’s just too much whining and shit about this team, guess thats just reddit and Twitter for ya though. Sure you can critique the team but people are acting like the seasons over before it even began, just enjoy the ride fellas. Will Lou has a point the FO aren’t God’s and can’t just make shit happen just torontoman69 wants it to but that seems to of gone over everyone’s heads here and instead they focused on the money part of it. Get a grip of yourselves and stop spending so much time tossing out hypotheticals and what ifs and just wait for the damn season to start.
Least insightful Raptors fan 🤣
What a weird take lmao big yikes
This guy has always been way too reactive and emotional to take seriously
He honestly just tries to heat check social media and then parrot what he thinks will be the best to pander to the audience in the moment
Ya it’s called a job. People make money other ways than playing basketball believe it or not.
Let’s cut him some slack. It’s the nature of doing reaction podcasts. He’s absolutely just going to get some things completely wrong because he’s speaking through emotions. I’ve also had countless experiences where I listen after a game and he’s talking through my exact emotions and it basically feels like a group therapy session.
Ya, I think this take is wrong. Of course it’s a high skill job to be an NBA GM. Being an executive in any profession is really difficult and requires a very specific skill set which includes making high risk decisions.
But I say we should cut him some slack because this is Will giving his reaction. He’s a HUGE fan of the raptors and is likely annoyed at the directionless nature of the team, and watching us lose out on deals like this. I think this was a snap emotional reaction and if you say him down and asked him to actually think about the situation, this wouldn’t not be his take on NBA GMs.
