[Agness] Rookie Duties have begun. At the Pacers’ mini-camp, Jarace Walker got hit with the bill at a Nashville steakhouse. Almost $9,000.

Honestly doing this to anyone outside of a surefire hit seems like an ass thing to do

  2. FractalFractalF

Hazing sucks and should be eliminated from the NBA.

  3. sstewart1617

Sounds like a work dinner and expensable.

  4. kyleb402

I always hate stuff like this.

The vets are the ones who should be taking care of the rookies and providing an example of how to be a pro.

Obviously in the grand scheme of things $9000 isn’t that big of a deal, but sometimes players go crazy with this stuff.

I wish there were more coaches who didn’t allow this kind of thing.

  5. AccomplishedFront563

Interestingly enough, Jarace is actually earning more than Tyrese this year

This is why the majority of NBA players go broke. I get it’s hazing or a tradition or whatever but this type of behavior enforces lifestyle creep and mismanagement of money.

  7. RareWestern306

Hate this shit, so many of these guys will never get a second contract

  8. here_for_the_lols

That’s fucking bullshit another reason I’m glad not to be a Pacers fan

  9. iCOULDbewr0ng

    Lame as hell

What happened to filling up their cars with foam balls or making them carry your backpack or some shit like that

  10. ohmygodbeats7

This is fucked. Some of these rookies won’t make it in the league and that’s a lot of money when the rich players could cover it.

  11. Im sure its probably a 1 time thing and not a constant thing. Oh and this man is getting paid $6 mil this yr. Im guessing he will be ok. Ppl trippin lol

  12. MoreShenanigans

This is grimey if they actually made him pay

  13. Low_Wall_7828

I don’t mind this. $9k isn’t that much for a bunch of guys. He’ll get that back with a commercial for Tom Smith Ford. What gets me is the NFL ones when it’s a high 5 figures or 6 figure tab. Saw one where players were ordering expensive bottles to take home.

Dont understand how you could work so hard and come all this way to succumb to this rah rah bitch shit. Halliburton makes how much more than this guy? How about each man buys his own food

  15. Yessirthisis

I’m here to defend this millionaire from spending less than 1% of his income on one night! ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼

  16. makashiII_93

This feels disgusting. Especially after Halliburton got his bag.

Congrats Rookie!! Spend everything you got right now? ON US.

Yeah we can pay. But we don’t wanna and you’re the new guy. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, Rook.

  17. larrylegend1990

I hate this. Not because they forced him to pay. I hate that he was forced to give a big tip.

  18. JTMilleriswortha1st

Crazy how soft some people are about this 😭

  19. probablyjimmylam

I was really starting to like Tyrese Haliburton too. I’d hope a Vet covered the bill off camera or something. Most of the rookies’ money are gonna be to take care of their family.

  20. Stuff like this isn’t cool to do, IMO. Sure, some light rookie hazing like making them carry the bags or having them fetch coffee/food from the team facilities can be kind of funny, but you shouldn’t be making people spend money like this. Not all of these rookies are going to stick in the league, and some might need the money from their rookie contracts for the rest of their lives. Hazing and pranks should be things all parties can laugh about; sticking someone with a gigantic bill isn’t that.

  21. Le8ronJames

Y’all gotta chill. These guys are making millions, spending money on the dumbest shit(clothes, cars, jewelry) and you’re gonna feel bad for a millionaire spending 9K? I wouldn’t be surprised he already spent that amount at the club.

FYI, Walker signed a 12M guaranteed contract. He’s gonna make 6M this year. If you’re making 60K that’s the equivalent of spending $90….And even less because the more money you make the less it’s worth.

I’d rather see rookies pay the bills then have other stupid hazing activities.

  22. SpartanVasilias

I’d fuckin laaaaaaugh in their faces if they expected me to do this 🤣

  23. Barnicus53

All this pearl clutching because a guy making a couple million in one season has to pay for one dinner, lol. Soft ass generation.

  24. GhostoftheWolfswood

When do rookies get their first paychecks? Is it once training camp starts or is it July 1st?

  25. I think people read into these things way too deeply.

It’s a good team bonding thing imo and I think it’s actually a subtly really nice lesson to show some of these new players how much money they’re really playing with.

  26. This is beyond stupid. Hazing in small things is cool but these rookies don’t have money like that yet

  27. AdministrativeAd523

Omg so funny make the young kid who just got there sweat, so funny.

  28. PooperJackson

Don’t you prank someone by putting shaving cream on them while they are sleeping on something? I don’t get how this is a prank. Pranks are supposed to be clever.

  29. So weird this shit happens. Same vets who do this probably have talked to rooks about savibg money. Like, what?

  30. HoyaDestroya33

I’m ok for rookie hazing but asking someone who is paid less than you an enormous tab is an ass thing to do.

  31. Does anyone else think this is the stupidest fucking tradition ever?

  32. batmans420

Y’all are dramatic as fuck. Jarace is making 6x as much this year as most of us will in our entire lifetimes. He will be fine

  33. Shatnerknickerz

Why would anyone order a $8,823 dollar satchet of ketchup for a $177 steak?

  34. Hibachi-Flamethrower

This is just his vets teaching him about the dangers of fine dining.

  35. KuzzyPoole

It’s a joke. Reddit loves to think what happens on camera is real. Like people aren’t constantly staging shit for laughs. If anything it’s a tax write off.
