This has always been the issue for Dallas. Aside from Brunson's last season in Dallas where he really developed into a more reliable scorer and creator, the Mavs have had almost nobody who could consistently create offense outside of Luka. Dinwiddie yes, but Spencer would also go cold or just be MIA out there for stretches during the season. Almost nobody on Dallas' roster could do anything offensively other than shoot open threes. Having Kyrie for the full season will finally help lighten the load on Luka. I have zero concerns about the Dallas offense. They have two ultra elite ball handlers and scorers surrounded by a plethora of really good shooters.
Obviously it's all about the defense. And if they can even be average on defense, then they could still go far, similar to Denver last season.
I feel like an underrated part of having Kyrie is that Luka doesn't need to go so hard on offense anymore, which means he can put more effort into defense. When he puts effort, he is at least an average defender, like we saw in 2021-22, instead of the god-awful one from last season.
I feel like everyone is already counting us out.And the first dribble hasn’t even came for the preseason. That’s fine the Mavericks are always comfortable being underdogs. They underestimate. We eat that, we eat that for breakfast.
