How high do Smart and Rob rank on most painful transfers for you?

Each one hurt on their own but both is just a gut punch I can’t get over. Was watching the Marcus media day interview and honestly couldn’t finish it.

I was still more hurt when we traded IT. Man just played through a hip injury, through his sister’s death and bounced the Wizards in the second round even scoring 52 points in the series. And the worst thing was we traded him for Kyrie of all fucking people.

Paul Pierce and Garnett to Nets at the time. Rondo to Dallas in 2014. Big three era was great when first getting interested in the NBA

KG & Pierce. Obviously worked out well for us long term, but at the time it was painful.

  4. Smart is definitely my most painful one. Rob makes me disappointed and a little sad, but I can understand/rationalize that trade more

Smart is number one for me, having grown up with him as a Celtics fan. The big three I watched as a kid and when they were traded their run was over.

IT hurt like hell, but the return of Kyrie was massive and he was here for a shorter stint. Rob kinda hurt less so because the Smart deal was already done.

Smart, Perk, IT, Rob , those hurt because they were traded to make the team better. KG/PP/Rondo were clearly rebuild moves so while I was hurt, i get it.

Losing Smart first made it a bit easier to let go of Rob

Moved to Boston in 2012 and decided to go all-in on the Celtics. I couldn’t really get in on the tail end of the Big 3 era, but when they blew that up, it felt like my team and the kid Marcus Smart was a huge part of that. All effort, all the time.

He’s the first Celtic I ever loved, so yeah…

Rob doesn’t register at all. I mean I remember draft night and he was a cool player. But Smart hurt worse than Rondo. Smart was like trading Bird.

Smart moving on to the Grizzlies doesn’t feel as bad because it is a good situation for him. It shook me though in the moment. I will always hate it but I understand it. The IT one just felt wrong. It still feels wrong.

None, I root for the team not individual players

KG & Pierce marked the end of of a competitive period. But I can’t say any trade in sports has ever felt like a gut punch. Len Bias—now that left me shell shocked.

Rondo, Perk, Smart, RW3. When we traded Rondo, he was the only good thing about the Celtics at that time. I thought we would be rebuilding around him and to the last guy from the 2008 team.

Smart trade was devastating, so he’s number 1. Rob made me feel sad but i think the trade made alot of sense so imma get over it

Neither were major contributors at the time, but trading Dee Brown and Chauncey Billups is the most “WTF are we even doing here?” trades I remember.

I love the Celtics. The team.

So I felt great joy when the Celtics shed a net negative player (Marcus).

No more of his me me me attention-seeking nonsense, and fake tough guy antics. We free of that fool.

  17. You want pain? Lets go back to when Danny first came to town and traded Antoine for Raef LaFrentz and Jiri Welsche.

    Smart

He was the first piece of the rebuild, the last connection to the big 3 era. I really thought he’d be here the whole way to a championship, retire a Celtic and get his jersey retired. Now if they do win it will be bittersweet, it makes me think back a couple years when they won the EC finals, I was so proud of that team for getting over that hump, and they were so happy, sucks they couldn’t finish it off.

Losing Smart was painful but it had to be done, I like Rob but I feel no pain for him being traded. All I feel is hype for the upcoming season.

KG and Pierce. Big 3 Celtics were the reason I became a Celtics fan, and it was like an end of an era.

  21. Perk for Jeff Green. Haven’t had a starting rim protector center since.

  22. papabearsixtynine

I think I hate the Smart trade almost as much as what we did to I.T.

  23. 81rennab

I loved watching Rob play, but, honestly, I wasn’t bothered by him leaving at all. The only two departures that have really stung were Smart and Perk.

  24. LeepyCallywag

Pierce and KG was the worst, I was really hoping Paul would be a career Celtic.

IT hurt a lot, at the time the extent of his injuries wasn’t well known, and it seemed like a lateral talent move but a huge loss in leadership.

The Smart one is right up there. He’s been my favorite player for years. I think the part that made it even harder was the way the report came out. Expecting Zinger for Brogdon I was on cloud 9, then a couple hours later it’s Smart out of nowhere. It was hard to view the trade objectively knowing that the first iteration made me so much happier.

I saw pierce and Garnett get traded, nothing phases me anymore lol

From a basketball perspective. It was just a matter of time. Both players lacked championship quality. Marcus had the heart of the team, but made make or break plays to a detriment. TimeLord was the type of big we wanted to be good. He just kept missing the mark.
