Following up on some quotes from media day, the Locked on Nets check in on what Cam Thomas had to say about his role going into this season. Or more importantly, what he didn’t have to say about his role. It seemed the third-year guard is still unclear about what will happen for him going into this season.
It seems that we could be heading for another year of Cam Thomas not in the Nets’ regular rotation, a continued mystery for a guy who’s filled it up in the scoring department when given the chance.
Adam Armbrecht and Doug Norrie talk about Cam Thomas’s words and also what Jacque Vaughn had to say (or not say) about the situation.

Didn’t coach already tell Cam to play on both ends?
JV doesn't know what to do with him. He was told to play both ends of the floor, but something tells me he doesn't like that idea lol
Everybody has to show & prove JV said . Well besides Mikal & Cam J , I feel like those guys roles are cemented
Yo, I thought he said he wanted cam to pass more and move more without the ball on offense. And then when cam kept dropping 40, it changed up. And the nets had to shut up, but they still didn’t exalt him in anyway. Im confused and disappointed if his career gets held back because of petty criticisms before letting him work on his potential on real time more consistently.😢
Cam Thomas is a scoring prodigy. No one doubts that but most people want to see him make improvements as a defender and playmaker for his teammates.
He definitely added some muscle this off-season which is a good sign but he needs to show those improvements when he gets an opportunity to play this season…..
He doesn’t have a role lol the delusions MUST stop!! He still must develop and that’s just reality.
I don’t think Cam is a priority for Jacque Vaughn…he’s gonna get traded this season I’m calling it. Don’t wanna see the scoring prodigy go but they are clueless as to what to do with him
I am hoping … that this is just a way to misguide the opps to start the season because at some point, JV has to give him legitimate minutes. Scoring is going to be an issue
JV is the worst type of coach. Anyone who played at least Varsity level and up sports would agree. No player wants to play for a coach who sends messages, plays favorites outside the stars, and is not consistent in the way they access playing time.
JV has shown his whole ass when comes to how he treats his players. If he likes you you get all the rope in the world but if he doesn’t you’re in the dog house. It’s the worst. Hate that type of coach. He admitted that held a grudge against Ben Simmons. Listen no body has been more critical of Ben but it didn’t make things better to have the coach of the team hold Ben out to dry and he continually does that with Cam Thomas.
If I was Marks I would March down to his office and tell. Hey asshole stop killing Cam Thomas value what are you stupid?!! Even if he is not a fit you talk him up till the cows home you don’t continuously go on the media and talk him down.
I was clamoring for the Nets to hire Ime Udoka. I kept hearing about this titanic wave of Media outrage that would occur once any NBA team hired Udoka. Since he signed with Hou I havent heard one iota of backlash.. So once again the Nets are clueless understanding personalities & the NBA community at large
It's pretty clear there are no set roles outside of Mikal, Clax, CJ. Simmons has done a lot of talking. Great, glad he's feeling good but he still has to show it. This team needs to build an identity. Who's hungry? Who wants the minutes?
Trade him
I want to give a big shoutout to the Locked On Nets team for their thoughtful and diplomatic approach in holding the Nets organization accountable. You guys raised some excellent points about Cam Thomas, supported by factual data. Particularly, your observation regarding Cam's minutes alongside key players CJ and Bridges resonated strongly and seemed to highlight underlying tensions. It's worth noting that Cam likely spent a significant amount of time on the court with Dinwiddie, which I suspect might have exceeded his combined minutes with CJ and Bridges. Unfortunately, those moments didn't work out well for Cam as the ball often stuck in Dinwiddie's hands during their joint play. I'd venture to say that this might have been a deliberate strategy orchestrated by Jacque Vaughn. At this juncture, I'm in favor of the organization either trading or releasing Cam, as his presence on the roster is likely to perpetuate these lingering questions and serve as an ongoing distraction.
It doesn't seem like the Nets really have a plan for him. I think that's a huge mistake. I think he can carve out a real impact role off the bench. He can be instant offense but he needs to also be a facilitator. He needs to expand his game. I'm hoping he gets the opportunity and he has developed as a player.
I think Ben will be a point guard in name only. You look at him in Philly at his best, he played. More a point forward. The difference is they have lots of combo guards on this roster. In the halve court the ball will be in Dinwiddie's hands.
More than likely Cam is an immature malcontent and the Nets are waiting for him to grow up. I think he probably disrespects the coaching staff and the fact that he has to earn his way back on the rotation hasn't sunk in to him. I hope this drama does not go very far into the season. I want him to play and I think the Nets do but it makes no sense to keep him any longer if he isn't coming around.
Adam, you are correct about the defense and knowing where his teammates are and things of that nature. But I did hear. I'm not sure if this was on the first day of training camp that JV said Kim Thomas did add some stuff to his game and he's being more professional and and that was good to see. So I do think there's some light at the end of the tunnel
I think Adam is incorrect about the Cam situation regarding the other players brought in. DSJ is a guard who has been brought in for his defence. Lonnie is a decent player but both are on one year veteran minimum deals. Those two didn't have a large number of teams wanting them. They are both guards but neither of them can score anything like Cam Thomas. It is frustrating how this narrative is perpetuated.
For a Nets organization who values their long term project, it doesn't look like the Nets know what to do or what the long term plan is with Cam Thomas. This is very sad because he is extremely talented. I'll preface what my grand father did when he was the father of his family, he gave more attention to one of his kids because he saw deficiency in his life development; my grandfather understood which one of his kids can live on their own, and which one need more guidance. You would think the Nets would prioritize and give Cam Thomas more attention; talent is different from more understanding how to be self sustaining. Just sad. If Nets want Cam Thomas to be a swiss army knife when he is really more a sword, it feels like Nets are pegging him in the wrong hole. I've stated this in other vlogs, if you put Cam Thomas in Dam Lillards position when he first came into the league, do you think Cam would flourish? Most likely yes, because Portland put their offense around Dame. So my question is why was Sean Mark's plan with Cam Thomas? If he was planning to transform Cam Thomas complete DNA, it really sounds like he is playing god with Cam's future.
