How does FIBA eligibility work?
In IIHF, if you want to represent a different country you need to be a citizen and play in that country for 4 years (two years if you’ve never competed in IIHF before).

Embiid went to school and spent his formative years in America. His son is American and getting his citizenship meant a lot to him as well. Obviously those factors played a part in it on too of being able to team up with a bunch of stars.
