> “The NBA and NBPA mourn the horrific loss of life in Israel and condemn these acts of terrorism. We stand with the people of Israel and pray for peace for the entire region.”
The official stance of the NBA on the ongoing struggles in the Middle East.

lol they should have just kept the first sentence
Lol, if I’m the Mavs front office, I’m calling Kyrie to see if he’ll play this season
I want to hear Kyrie’s take on this…
It’s a weird conflict for me. I am Jewish, my whole family is Jewish, but I see this apartheid state with backing from some of the largest world superpowers who possess significantly better firepower (sold to them by the US) and the sympathy of most of the global north’s press. It’s hard talking about this conflict with anyone I know because my Judaism is constantly called into question whenever I try and point out what I perceive to be the reality of the situation.
I just want to see where this thread goes
I’m not educated enough to know if I should be mad at this or not
why does the nba feel the need to post this lol
What does the NBA gain by making this statement?
Surely r/NBA is equipped to have a rational and civil discussion regarding the Israel/Palestine conflict
L
Insane that it’s controversial to say “we oppose terrorists”

I’m anti-civilian murder/oppression, this shit is way too nuanced for me to pick a side. Both have done some foul shit
This thread got astroturfed in record time, as expected. Fuck the Hamas cowards for murdering thousands of innocent civilians and fuck their leadership who live a luxury life in Qatar while ordering their followers to go on suicide attacks.

Explain in NBA terms
Why couldn’t they at least acknowledge Palestine as well? Over 400 Palestinians were killed yesterday yet for some reason they just had to say that they stand with Israel.
The Israeli propaganda is out in full force I see.
I just don’t understand why the NBA has to have a stance on everything
Mods are planning another ineffective blackout to protest something they have no education on.
This is just going to go around in circles forever.
“HAMAS are terrorists waging war on innocent children”
“The Israelies are the real terrorists and have been committing similar if not worse atrocities for years.”
“Palestine had to act- there was no political solution.”
Problem is there’s no moral and ethical solutions and it’s incredibly complex.
old fucks fighting over land in which young people suffer the casualties
Now stand with the people of Hong Kong or the Uyghurs!
Too much money to be lost capitalist hypocrites
Stand with Ukraine while Russia is invading them and taking land they believe to be theirs. Show support for Ukrainian military and be proud when they bomb Russian land.
Stand with Israel while they invade and colonize Palestine and it’s people and get angry when extremist groups of said people bomb Israeli land.
I can’t understand it. I just want everyone to stop dying and invading each others space.
I blame Britain too
Shouldn’t have given the land back to begin with. Killed millions
Hamas is bad.
The Israeli Defense Force’s actions over the past few decades against Palestinians are bad.
Committing cross border kidnappings and murders of Israeli civilians is bad.
Building Jewish settlements on Palestinian land and stealing their property without their consent is bad.
Shooting rockets at Israel unprovoked is bad.
Killing thousands of Palestinians, including many women and children, without being held to trial is bad.
The current leadership of Israel is bad.
The current leadership of Hamas is bad.
The restriction of free movement of Palestinians in and out of the Gaza strip is bad.
The Knesset knows that if Israel were to incorporate a one state solution, they would have to limit the voting rights of Palestinians within this society as they would outnumber the Israeli’s and be the major voting block in every election, challenging the elites grip onto power. That’s bad.
Hamas refusing to negotiate in good faith with the Israeli government in order to stop the bleeding and work towards a peaceful solution, despite the concessions they’d have to give, is bad.
I think most people can agree with this, no?
Oh so now the NBA wants to take a political stance. Kept their mouth shut when it came to Hong Kong
I’d have zero issues with sports leagues, and business in general, not feeling obligated to state official positions on political issues.
Interesting flag choice by the pinned mod comment to say the least
Wish the league brought this energy with Hong Kong.
I was waiting to take sides on this topic until the NBA and NBPA made a statement. I am ready to argue now.
Time for Kyrie to miss the season as part of his personal ethics
Fuck Hamas. Fuck targeting civilians. No one should ever be put through violence and horror like that.
But where were all these statements about the 600+ Palestinian children who’ve been murdered in cold blood over the last 9 years? Or the 50+ Palestinian journalists who’ve been killed with impunity? Or the fact that a Palestinian has been murdered about every other day for the last few years by the Israeli military? Or about the fact that the Israeli Prime Minister showed up at the UN last week with a map with Palestine completely wiped off of it that said “The New Middle East.” Or about the fact that high ranking officials in the Israeli government have made definitively genocidal comments about Palestinians in the last few years?
None of these politicians or organizations who are releasing statements right now are seriously interested in peace or the root causes of the issues at hand. They only show up at certain times when it’s convenient for them.
Human suffering of any kind is so fucking horrifying. No one should have to live like this. Not Israelis, nor Palestinians. My heart breaks for the innocent people who have to live through this. But one of these countries is a nuclear power with one of the world’s most powerful militaries. To put things into context, for every Israeli death in this conflict, there have been about 5x Palestinian ones. Israel has been enforcing a brutal military occupation and regime of apartheid for literal generations. All that does is create tension that inevitably blows up in cycles of violence. It’s on them to stop it.
I expect statements from the NBA on every global conflict henceforth
umm I know very little about this topic so I am not going to stand with anyone.
Why do we need the NBA’s take on the Israel situation
