What are AD’s MVP chances this year?

Given what we’ve seen over the course of last year and in the preseason thus far, how likely is it that AD is in the inner circle of MVP contenders provided he stays healthy?
He can dominate in the paint and (thus far) seems to be shooting the 3 ball a lot better.
Maybe the 5 out offense helps ADs passing like we saw vs Milwaukee which would add another dimension to his and the team’s offense.

He is by far one of the best defenders in the league if not the best overall. He can protect the rim and defend on the perimeter if required.

Realistically how would he fare in the MVP race?

  1. No chance. Even if we’re a top seed, Lebron would need to take a significant step back statistically for AD to be in the conversations. Otherwise, success of this team will always be attributed to both him and Lebron. He’s got a better chance At DPOY.

Unfortunately lower than his odds of missing 10+ games

  3. Well they passed a new rule that you need to play at-least 65 games to be eligible. If he makes it to that point then we probably will have a good record and his chances will be high.

If he play great all season long and lakers are in top 3 in western conference, he has chance

None. Even if he plays enough games and dominates, the NBA has determined that Jokic will be the favorite again.

Wait I thought they are giving it to Wemby?

It’s very hard when a time has two bonafide superstars to have one guy stand out enough to win MVP.

Jokic and Tatum would seem to be the value bets here. Luka always lurking.

Zero. He could play 82 games, average 28ppg and lead the league in rebounds, stocks(steals+blocks) and probably not even make All NBA 1st. Media voters a fairly biased against him and nitpick stuff with him that they don’t with other players because they ignore the defensive side of the ball. Also Lebron is on the team so he gets negative votes for that.

Talent wise? Probably as good as almost anyone. Realistically? Not very high, him staying healthy the whole season unfortunately isn’t very likely.

  10. Need to know the odds of AD playing 70+ games first 🤣 gauranteed top 3 if he plays 82 😂

  11. If he can stay healthy he has to be in the running

Very low. The problem with MVP awards is that they’re largely narrative-driven, and I’ve noticed that players who win it usually have some sort of MVP hype coming into that season.

For whatever reason, the narrative just isn’t there for AD. People just don’t bring his name up when discussing awards – hell, he wasn’t even 1st team defense last year. People will acknowledge his greatness, but he is just completely left out of discussions for MVP, DPOY, etc

  13. He will have to overcome Laker tax unfortunately…

Maybe if he cries about it enough in interviews he’ll win it out of pity, oh wait he’s not a bitch like a certain MVP

Honestly tho if he plays 65+ games and lakers are top 3 defensively then he better win DPOY

  15. jobeeeeeeem

High if he is healthy for at least 70 games.

  16. henchilada

Pointless. MVP will go to the player who posts 30+ PPG on a top 3 seed. AD should be aiming for DPOY.

AD needs to play at least 70 games for that to happen. But imo with this team he doesn’t need to be that guy every night given the depth. If he can give 20 and 12 that would honestly be enough. But regardless he gotta play with that hunger and aggression every night regardless who he up against.

  18. NBA media has already admitted the MVP is no longer about a Most Valuable Player but about who is most marketable and they’ve done a good job at destroying ADs reputation the last few years, so clearly his chances have gone at the window in their eyes.

  19. alexamerling100

If he plays enough games good but don’t know how likely that is

  20. peezy2408

If he stays healthy, I think he can win both dpoy and mvp this year. Me being hopeful

  21. ChillClinton904

Zero. The NBA will do everything it can to keep a Laker from winning any notable awards.

  22. Pardonme23

low because other players are better than him
