Mavericks Sign A Player + Derrick Jones Jr. In Starting Lineup ? Mavs News & Rumors



The Mavericks made a few roster moves over the weekend as Mavs GM Nico Harrison begins to shape the roster for the 2023-24 NBA season. The Mavericks cut Mike Miles Jr., Joe Wieskamp and Jelly Walker from their preseason roster, and added Taze Moore. Moore, who played for the Mavericks’ NBA G-League affiliate last season, will have a chance to make the Mavericks’ final roster as the Mavs close out the preseason against the Detroit Pistons.

Could Derrick Jones Jr. potentially start for the Mavericks? NBA insider Marc Stein reports that Jones has played himself into contention for a starting role alongside Grant Williams on the wing. Josh Green and Olivier-Maxence Prosper are still options to pair with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, but Mavs head coach Jason Kidd was impressed with what Jones did against Real Madrid in the 2023 NBA preseason.

    Oh my gawd. Now DJJ is in the starting lineup.. Come on guys. If Kidd actually did all these starting line ups(or traded for half the midget point guards with no defense in the league for that matter) that you guys keep throwing out there. Than you really would have something to talk about.

    Derrick Jones Jr is just really good on defense and he does play the same connector role that josh green does but he is more athletic. I see a world where Derick Jones Jr makes an all defense team this year if he is a starter. If Josh Green could become better on defense or he gets better on offense than he might be able to start.

    Wow teaching professional players how to keep player infront of you and opitions on pick n roll. Any 10 grader that has had any kind of coaching should know this. Defense will always come down to 1 key word DESIRE. Paid millions to just jack up 3's & Dunk and go one on one. Coached Mid to high level AAU for 10 years, years ago no wonder the international players now dominate the NBA. How about a All Star game top USA vs International All Star game? Would like to think USA could be competitive but im not sure. Lets Go Mavs get healthy and lets start strong.

    Stop…we have an over abundance in offense. My goodness you have Curry, Hardy and Hardaway, Williams to supplement offense. Lol our offense will be even stronger than last year. It’s the rebounding and defense that is our issue.

    DJJ is a dog. Athletic, lots of energy! Green is great but DJJ has really improved his outside shot.
