A closer look at Tuesday night’s preseason game shows the Boston Celtics looked a little better than first thought, including Jayson Tatum working out of the post. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal looks at how Jayson Tatum did, how he can be even better, and why this is a potential game-changer for him. Plus, the Celtics curveball (still not a zone defense) looks like it might be full court pressure, which can work in a variety of scenarios. And Kristaps Porzingis fixes a problem he identified in his first preseason game.

JT should take more low post plays. just what he did in gm 7 against sixers last post season
Porzingis was +60% post ups + if he does not get it in, he goes to a line a lot. Use that!
Giveaway for one of those fire shirts this season please? 🙏🏻☘️🔒
no way does John actually watch WNBA lol
The very first thing I do when I open my eyes. Throw on the podcast then get ready for work
With his length, a drop step to the baseline would kill majority of his opponents.
martial arts and playing defense is very similar when it come to the principles
It was so nice seeing that full court press. I hope they keep it up.
Mentioning Aja like she’s better at posting and then acting as if YOU KNOW “Mr Peach Basket” is the hardest thing for me to listen to especially looking at you today. You have zero clue what you’re talking about. Crazy I can’t even watch my favorite teams Pod because this guy speaks like he played. Do you think Steelers pod guy tells Kenny Pickett what his progression should be? Or Patriots pod? (Christ, I hope it’s not you for those poor fans). I don’t want to hear some 5’5 fat guy giving Tatum post up advice because he seen McHale in the 80s & Aja Wilson a night ago. Let’s talk about the games!!! There’s more than enough material for you to use and dodge these “this is how you post up” sessions. “Get mchale in here because Tatum needs help.” Sam Cassell was the best post up guard in the league and this guy skips straight to mchale like shut up already
Did you really watch the WNBA? I've never even met a single person who watches WNBA. I think I'd rather watch amateur bowling than the WNBA.
“Hey Joe, show your entire hand Joe. Let us see the zone Joe.” – 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤫
Whyyyyyyy? A curve ball is a weapon you bring out on an OFF COUNT. If you keep throwing it, HOME RUN HITTERS will smash it/SHOOTERS ARE WAITING to shoot you out of it. Got dayum.
Porzingis is underrated all around. He is the second most valuable player for the Celtics, sorry JB. If the C's had KP instead of JB last year, they probably would've won it all.
Great vid McHale was indeed the original sweet foot in prime
Nice T-shirt John, I wonder where you got it 🤔
I like the full-court press. It gets disrespected because it’s middle school play #1 but like John said, even the pros get frazzled by it at times.
Did they not run the 2-2-1 press? Or do you mean half court zone?
I couldn't agree more regarding Tatum's post-up game. I think most Celtics fans know he's not as good a driver and finisher as we'd like, but his foot work along with his size and touch can make him a great post player to offset some of that.
In the playoffs when the game slows down in half court sets, he can become a bit predictable. Adding a solid post arsenal of moves will open everything up for him and the team in those situation.
3:20 GREAT reference from John here. He’s absolutely right too.
I want Tatum and brown to try and posterize at least 5 people a game
Hmm 🤔 I remember debating with a Celtics fans about Tatum needing to post up more and he’s too big and talented to be taking so many jumpers. This dude told me I was dead wrong hahaha his comment didn’t age well. Once MJ then Kobe developed a post game they became damn near unguarded.
From what I’ve seen I feel like PP, KP, Jaylen, and Jrue should be a primary group and JT, Horford, White, Hauser should be a primary group. From early observation it feels like those are the groups that mesh the best together
