Heartbreaking: It’s 5PM and IQ has not been announced to have signed an extension. Short of a delayed announcement, he will become a Restricted Free Agent this summer

We can probably match any non-absurd offer given if we really want him back this summer.

I’ll be in the minority, but I have no desire to pay him more than 20M a year, which what he’ll cost. I distinctly remember him completely disappearing in the playoffs on both sides of the ball. I’m not sure he’s worth what he’s going to get paid. I do really hope he proves me wrong this year and plays to a bigger contract.

Are we cooked or are we spinning this???

I never thought they’d extend him.

I definitely don’t want this to happen but I can see IQ pulling a Brunson and dipping to another team that’ll not only give him a bag but the freedom to play at his full potential.

Austin reaves is a good example of this. He hit the RFA market and everyone assumed folks were going to offer him a wild salary. Instead no one did and he was offered a modest fee from the lakers

He’s trade bait, and more so without a contract. Recall that RJs extension torpedoed the Spida talks. He’s a really versatile player so he can work in multiple trade packages. And if not, we can match his offer in the summer, which will likely be a little higher than what we could extend him for. And yeah, the deadline is 5 PM central time, so 6 here in NYC.

I think this FO has been pretty tight-lipped about every move – I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already wrapped up and then a PR comes out in the next few hours.

I don’t get it. IQ is a great young player who loves playing here. Super versatile. Can shoot. Good defender who plays bigger than he is. Can handle the ball and initiate the offense. We should fucking extend him. And this big brain talk of keep him unsigned as trade bait, let the market decide his value, match whatever offer comes his way does not seem wise to me.

Leon Rose was taking a nap and Rosas was busy building expensive trade package for Towns.

With Dolan I’m never worried about money
If he has a big year they will pay him
Moving on

This puts us kind of in the Mavs situation with Brunson. I think the Knicks will only match an offer to a certain amount, if it’s above that they will not match for a guy that will be a bench player for them.
This puts pressure on them to trade him or lose him for nothing.

Honestly just sucks we chose to give an inefficient chucker the bag and we’re gonna move Q instead. IQ is so much better
